And so she sets sail...

It has been quite the journey. I'd go on about how Shallan progressed during her time here, but the incomparable Metzinsoft painted two images that make it rather easy to illustrate. She went from this to this.

It is not possible to kudos everyone that Shallan met, for there were so many and each were incomparable in their own little, unique manner. I am glad to have discovered this server in the beginning of this year, and I will attempt to thank those who played a great part in Shallan's life, from her first day to when she set sail for calmer shores. In no particular order...

The original troop. Edrahil, Siegfridr, Buppi, Nikki. Thank you all for joining me here as I recommended the place to you, and the fun times and RP we had is too difficult to list out. Edrahil's constant support and camaraderie, Buppi's naivety and youth slowly giving way to occassional bursts of wisdom and even courage. Siegfridr's constant wrath kept under check as he tried to do the best by the little woman he had befriended. Nikki's fear and Shallan's attempts to help her. Thank you.

Oliver. He gets his own section. Sines Oliver Selakiir single-handedly decided Shallan's alignment and future with his altruism and constant consideration and kind actions. He restored sight to her, when several tempting and illicit evil options were also being offered to her to restore said eyesight. He stuck with her, supported her through her mistakes as well as he could. And for the gift of sight, she considered him her dearest friend.

The Knights and associates. Scout, Brendon, Maeve, Liunia, Harken, Sara, Owain, Alais. Acorn. Each of you made the Knights of the Road interesting. From Scout's melancholy at being the last one and her stalwart resolve to still carry on. Maeve's cheerful nature coupled with her depression at her constant loss. Liunia's age, wisdom and manipulation. (As well as the constant trouble she brought, haha.) Brendon's wisdom coupled with his amorous and perverted nature. :D Sara's everywoman vibe and strong character, and Owain's good cheer. Harken's late addition but constant sarcasm and amusing quips. Acorn...the feyest fey to ever fey. (Sorry Nissa.) As for Alais...gems. A mountain of gems. Need I say more?

The friends. Oh dear. She made her share of friends and allies. Elise Davontis, the young archmage who tried to do her best but often stumbled due to young age and inexperience. Pavera and Zankas, for offering a blind lady a helping hand when she first arrived. Mellina Vesper, the puppet show bard. Macy Anne, the cheerful farmer. Nissa the crazy fey. Viczar the Drow (in various disguises). Richard Woodsman (in various disguises.) Olaf Stormcloud (SKY PONY!) Celendil Silverspear (Nerd!) Nicodemus (Blends into Shadows...) Tal (Hau). Iku and Nik (You two get clubbed together as you're meant to be.) Elenya (Delightfully Decadent Dryad!)

The mentors. Leonard Thomas Banquo and Uriah Lefevre informed Shallan's ideology to a great extent, despite only briefly being around. The combination of strength in your own belief coupled with a respect for other beliefs punctuated her own way of doing things, and in the end she was probably a little too forgiving. As for mentors with the sword, Mary Blythe, Iku Windamier and Edrahil Lindir did a lot to bring her to a certain level of skill.

The enemies! Morgan Gracehold. The Hoarran turned Infernalist was also a friend-turned-enemy to Shallan, but there was always a certain measure of 'could-have-been' in their interactions. Morgan aided her to a great extent, and then eventually became the one that came closest to ending her life. Lucia Malveaux, the astute and utterly insane infernal warlock was one that Shallan met only rarely, but always butted heads with on philosophy. Mary Blythe, see Morgan above. Elizabeth Eliphelet who manipulated things from the shadows and tried to get the Knights into a lot of trouble. Roland Asen, who had a loli thing going for Scout for a while and then eventually decided to kill everyone in the Knights. Moryan, the conflicted warlock who started off on the wrong foot with Shallan and seemed to stay there. There were many more, and you know who you are.

The in-betweens! Nyilan the Warlock was an interesting counterpoint to Moryan in that both were similar in their outlooks, but one managed to get it across to the Knight Commander. The leaders of Myon, Maeralya in particular seemed to be on their side but that one friendly fire incident really soured relations. Cuthbert (thees and thous, harumph. Thank you for lending the campsite.) Oturo Ulfiarn, the orc who sought balance desperately in his life, and towards the end was upended by Shallan's words and arguments. Storm and Syrian, for advice and much indirect assistance. Adelia Einarth, for being the broest bro who ever bro'd despite being a woman. And many, many more.

I have gone on long enough, and if there's anyone I have missed it is not deliberate at all. Playing Shallan on this server was a pleasure and I look forward to being with you on other characters. But for now, she seeks better shores and a calmer life.

Shallan has been a trip. From walking in cold mountains to battling demonic lords. From guiding her around by hand to watching her slay giants and devils. Shallan taught Buppi how to bathe. Taught him what soap was. Taught him so many things. She helped him through a lot and was his lifeline on a few dire moments.

Come back soon, Mom. -Buppi

Shallan was great fun, from dangerous adventures to the in depth RP, I was always happy to find her. Come back and visit sometime or else you're a COWAAAAAARD!

Roleplaying with Shallan made me want to play a Knight of the Road again.

One of those characters that felt..real. That had weight to her.

I'm only sad that she and Borin did not interact more often.

I've said this before, too. And I'll say it again. Shallan was one of my favourite characters, ever.

I know I only got to participate in the latter portion of her journey, but Shallan is a big part of the reason Celendil is still around. Awesome character who truly did know everyone and created a ton of great RP wherever she went. She'll really be missed.

Also, thanks for the awesome house.

Shallan's been amazing. A character who has helped define other characters. Good work, dude. After a few years of watching your characters (not here, but elsewhere), I can pretty safely say Shallan is one of your best creations.

From some unknown reasons, there was always a gap between Ravarora and Shallan. That hidden tension was weird and funny when grouped together with some other elves (like Maeralya).

I'm not sure I can handle seeing all these farewells but Shallan was an amazing and developing character it was an honor to play with her. Farewell hope I meet you in the next round!

Shallan had a hand in many of Zankas' more memorable early days. Partings to the once blind duelist!

Fare you well brave, blind knight. Shallan was a remarkable character and, in the very end, it was her influence more than anything else that saved poor, battered Nikki Tulk from meeting a tragically messy end. That growth from the kindly woman who froze the perpetually terrified Nikki behind a cart to the serious, tired, but ultimately admirable knight commander was a joy to watch.

God knows she's finally earned some rest. Perhaps, somewhere across the sea, the two of them can finally find some peace (but we know they won't. There is always another adventure).

I originally linked this song for Scout's departure. All considered, I'm not sure it doesn't fit Shallan too.

I loved the interaction between Shallan and Nicodemus! It was a fun journey that went from these characters, on meeting, not trusting (and rightfully so) the ol' eavesdroppin' meddling elf, however after realizing common ground/goals (for a human that is :P) grew into a camaraderie of even concern for one another.

Hope to have another good journey with your next one! (Or catching up when you dust Shallan off from the shelf, *nudge, nudge*)
