Farewell, and THANK YOU!

Post by Obrynsar »

((Edited to FYI -- the following 3 paragraphs are not 100% my own words, as they were altered by the respected administration team. Therefore, if you want to hear the full version of recent events, discord me - Obrynsar#8776. As explaining why I have decided to leave in 2 short paragraphs, while not mentioning any specific person, is "not appropriate for the open forum", as I was now informed. I was pushed back when suggesting to publish it in the Shanty, as well).

After about a wonderful year on Arelith, my journey comes to an end. As it does for Anishta and Vhaella.

Thank you for helping me craft and hone my characters and stories, and I hope that I managed to insert some bits of joy into your lives in return.

I feel like I owe some of you thanks and major props - for being capable writers, creative minds, companions and friends. Here goes:

DeepDarkTruth - My original companion on the server. We've had great times!

Thron - Couldn't leave you out. Despite IC ups and downs, it's been quite a journey. I appreciate you and your RP!

Kyomi's player - A great roleplayer and a friend. I enjoyed our every interaction. Don't stop exploring (people, not just areas ;)).

RedRopes - Arakh was a true joy to RP with. You've helped Anishta's character arc immensely. You always gave people the chance as long as they were interesting, no matter the level and OOC affiliations. I appreciate you for that.

cptcuddlepants - Jadoth is often misunderstood. But you are an awesome guy OOC, and I know full well how true to the lore and RP you have been trying to be. Keep on rocking.

Prestige & Siduel - You guys can often appear like mongoloids to those who don't truly know you. But, underneath the rugged surface, you are some of the best roleplayers that i've met. Brilliant writing. Amazing ideas. Thank you!

Dagoth - Grit is awesome (which goes a long way for a goblin!). Keep on shamaning.

Casimir de Lanza's player - It was short, but fantastic. Hope you will come back to the server at some point. It needs RPers like you!

CharonsClaw & ProbablyAMage- We didn't get to RP much since I've only recently made a UD toon, but I know your qualities and the server should be thankful for having you two around. Keep carrying the RP torch!

And many others: Lunarya, Nishem, Kareshk, Nathan, Ixtli, Lissa, Vail -- to name a few.

I have met a lot of other brilliant, funny, creative people on Arelith. Thank you all, and sorry if I did not mention anyone else who significantly impacted me - there are certainly many such. Don't let the creative spirit die, and try to put OOC sentiments aside - remember, eventually, we all play(ed) a RP server for the value of the story and character development. Together, and by occasionally accepting consequences and defeat, you can write even more powerful tales.

Take care!

FYI - The first three paragraphs are not my words. My post was just rather aggressively cropped by the administration team, who apparently did not like the (IMO mellow given the circumstances) criticism surrounding the reasons for my departure. I respectfully disagree with that decision that was done without any previous notice and simply overwritten my last words to my Arelith friends.

If you are interested in hearing more, I would love to share. Discord me - Obrynsar#8776.

I really do hate to be that person, but I feel the need to make this post as I see things like this happen more than I feel they should.

We all have our issues while on the server. We all have players we dislike playing with or being around for whatever reason, almost all of us have suffered updates that ruin our current characters or make us regret having just deleted a character and so on.

The thing is, when we talk poorly about another player, a DM, a developer or even an update, even if we don't state specific names, it's typically still very easy (read as, effortless) to find out who is being talked about, which turns it from innocent venting into direct bullying(or a lack of appreciation for the work that was done freely, in the case of updates).

The following two lines from here come to mind.
"Just because you can, doesn't mean you should"
"If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything"

That said, I can realize the need to vent from time to time, and don't claim to have never done this myself when fed up before, but I still feel the need to post this as a reminder.

Lastly, if you feel treated unfairly by whatever your issue with another player/dm is, you can report it to DMs(if it's a player) or Devs(if it's a DM) even if whatever happened isn't a direct violation of rules. As I've seen DMs say before, they'd rather have too many reports than not enough, and even reports that aren't a direct rule violation still help them find which people they should watch more closely than others, and so on.

I disagree, but you are entitled to your opinion, and I wouldn't want to see it censored. There was nothing inflamatory about my original post, I did not intend to insult anyone, and I do not think it could be inferred.

I always loved Anishta and only wished we got more of a chance to play together.

Sorry your departure was on poor terms but I wish you the best moving forward!

Correction: I didn't add anything, only took away some complaints that are inappropriate for this forum. Everything in the OP is still your own words. Compare to your original version (it's in the forum PM I sent you) to verify this for yourself.

In the forum PM I sent you, I outlined the appropriate channels for you to make your complaints.

As Twily said:

Kudos to Lorkas of the Ministry of Truth for ensuring that the Party and their Position and true Reality have been put forth to conquer against those who would dare question, think, or reason for themselves. We cant have people going ahead and doing that. Thank you for all your work. We at Engsoc appreciate you.

Bro what. Complaints about other players were removed because that's not what a kudos thread is for.

Nor is it for this. Direct any complaints you have about forum moderators to the admin team in a forum PM.

@Viceroy, I want it to be made very clear that this sort of forum behaviour is way out of line. If you continue doing this, I'll ban you from the forums for it.

- I really don't like banning people, and have rarely done so.
- But I don't like people harassing other players, and particularly staff members who are just doing their job, in the public forum, even more.

If you have any issues with forum moderation, send the active admin group a PM.

After being in contact with the OP, I've decided to unlock this topic, with the sole intention people get the chance to express their kudo's towards each other. I don't want that opportunity taken away from anyone.

I thoroughly enjoyed the time that I got to spend RPing with you and will sorely miss Anishta.

Good luck on whatever it is you move on to next. I hope that we can RP together in the future.

Anishta was an exciting character, indeed! Sad to see you go!
In the depths, no one can hear you scream...

Well, they can, but it's really muffled.

One of the best roleplayers I've ever seen. Your departure marks a genuine and sincere loss for the server, and I genuinely hope that you change your mind at some point in the future.

Ahh man... :D Zaknatar has been trying to approach Vhaella for at least an irl month now with the intent to impress her and rp himself to house membership... I literally have been hunting for you :D And apart from that one occasion when we travelled together, the longest rp interaction between our characters was a "Later I need to speak with you mage..." :D I am really sorry for you leaving...

When prestige is genuine in a Kudos thread you know its legit. But I share the sentiment and hope you come back at some point. The self aware meme goblin will miss you
