Dwarves and the elusive dwarven waraxe

Post by Punished Hans »

In light of this viewtopic.php?f=23&t=25&p=122182#p122182, or to be more precise, this:
ActionReplay wrote:- Dwarves can now -twohand Dwarven waraxe
I'd suggest to make the dwarven waraxe usable for dwarves without them having to spend a feat on exotic weapon proficiency.

Now, I'm aware that coding a custom 'Weapon proficiency (Dwarf)' likely requires HAK support, so what I propose is simply granting dwarves exotic weapon proficiency on creation. It's not like that'd be an insane buff, since most exotic weapons are inferior, anyways (safe for kukris, but I doubt that we'll see a swarm of dual-wielding dwarf WMs because of this).

As long as the dwarven waraxe remains """exotic""", I'd rather see dwarves able to innately wield exotic weapons.

It's possible to edit the .2da files, as far as I remember to associate a feat the dwarves have (in this case, I'd say stonecunning as it is unique to them) with the proficiency of the axe.

There's some #s in the margins of the items .2da, and the feats .2da you'd need to basically associate with eachother, but, it SHOULD work server side in the same way they've edited the dmg / crit threat of some items and the size of katanas.

Code: Select all

108 83310 dwarvenwaraxe 2 3 0x1C030 1 2 WAxBt 0 1 1 1 it_bag iwaxbt 0 **** 3 3 **** 1.3 10 100 1 10 1 3 1 30 1 2 83311 9 8 0 0 1 44 227 **** **** **** 4 0 0 83312 0 1 150 16 **** **** **** 100 100 0 41 1
this looks horrible, but, basically u associate the daxe to the stonecunning feat in the baseitems.2da under REQ FEATS, its feat # 227.

It can be granted to them as feat rapid reload was given to Drow.

Traitor's solution is to not give dwarves the exotic proficiency, but instead tie the axe's usability to another feat entirely (namely stonecunning, which is a feat dwarves get on creation).

Why make things complex when can be simple? Using racial axe is IG for Dwarves thing of honor. If someone used this to get katana well let him. i do not feel somehow cheated by that.

Dwarves already rival humans in mechanical power.

I'm well aware of that.

Giving them the ability to use the dwarven waraxe without having to spend a feat wouldn't change that by much, though.
Because the dwarven waraxe is more flavour than it is good.

It would, however, soothe the brain pain this issue causes me.

Free +2 con, free +2 unisaves vs spells. Very, very powerful.

Why is my thread turning into a meme.

I just wanted to use an inferior weapon without the additional cost of my soul.

hm
Actually, I see why.

I could see making dwarven waraxes open to -twohand for all races and granted the weapon to dwarves for free -- but two dwarf-centric benefits seems a little weird to me.

I dunno.

The weapon is strong for dwarves, regardless.

This worked beautifully, thanks. I'm surprised no one did this before really. Or why it's not even wieldable for Dwarves by default. But! Should be the case now, next reset.

All medium races can twohand Bastard Sword.

All dwarves can twohand Dwarven Waraxe.

This alone won't allow dwarves to take weapon focus/weapon spec/improved critical/etc in dwarven waraxe though

Edit: and if you're wondering how... feats.2da -> find the feats listed above -> add stonecunning/weapon prof exotic (prob don't need to do this with weapon spec) to the feator columns. BUT this may require the client to have a copy of the 2da too.
