CD Key Xfer

Post by SteelsSweets »

My partner and I had our keys unlocked so we can play on each other machines when needed.

Will this still be possible?

With the old program, we had to go in and change the keys manually to our own respective keys whenever we wanted to use another machine.

How will that work now? Do we put in multiple nwncdkey.ini files or do we still go in and manually change the key each time?

What we did in a similar situation is add both of our CD Keys to nwncdkey.ini. Then you can comment out the one you're not using. For example, edit nwncdiey.ini so it looks like this:

[CDKEY]
Key1=Blah
Key2=Blah
Key3=Blah

;[CDKEY]
;Key1=Blah2
;Key2=Blah2
;Key3=Blah2

When you want to use the second, put the ; at the start each of the first CDKEY lines, and remove the ; from the start of the second CDKEY. Does that make sense?

It does make sense.

The game will not register the lines starting with ;

Since Beamdog has their own key as well, I suppose I'd have to do this for both the nwncdkey.ini file and the cdkey file in the Beamdog download.

Once you have your characters migrated to your beamdog cd-key you don't need your nwncdkey.ini in there anymore.

So just change the beamdog cd key when my partner and I need to change computers? After the migration, of course.

Nwn ee supposedly supports a command line flag -userDirectory so you can have one shortcut use the default directory and another use a different directory with a separate key.. aND have the nwn.ini point to the other directory so you only need one copy of overrides

Regarding two cdkeys, I've tried the method above without success. When the second cdkey set is attempted (first set annotated with ";") the only characters that show up are the ones associated with the first cdkey. I also tried removing the first cdkey entirely and only loading with the second. Again, only the toons migrated from the first cdkey appear.

Success! I created a duplicate EE NWN folder (PM me and I'll explain further if you were having the same issue) and inserted only the second cdkey. Login then updated server vault with the second set of toons.
