It happens for all druids following a race-locked god, Sheela, Thard Harr, anytime you transition while shifted you lose the deity. I'm not sure if it also happens when shapechanged via spell
But the easiest solution I found was to follow Toril and continue RPing as following the same god., that said race-locking deities is a little silly but makes thematic sense. Another solution to fix it for druids would be to just add elementals, animals and dragons to the races those dieties allow?

Howling around all year long
Re: Racial Deity Restrictions & Being a Druid
You can totally do that.
But that's not a solution, it's just something you can do while we wait for the actual bug to be fixed (however that is). I am not doing that obviously, and I will continue to bump this thread so it doesn't get forgotten. But switching deities is not a solution when you want to actually follow your god.
I also understand we're not going to be noose or hyper punished for any of that. But when I am playing a priest/druid/cleric or what have you of a deity - I want to maintain that. I want to be able to consecrate shrines to my deity, never have to worry that my god will just desync from me and have to die for no basically no reason.
If you forget to check if you still have your god and consecrate an altar while having a blank deity the altar is ruined and becomes dedicated to `no god`. If you are in the middle of PvE and PvP and are "killed", you won't get a god save. You will not be able to cast spells, and so forth.

Re: Racial Deity Restrictions & Being a Druid
I was just informed by YellowCateyes that this may have been fixed. So people who have these kinds of deities go out there and polymorph and do weird things like crossing server transitions and logging out in polymorph form or just exist in them for IG hours and see if your gods reject you.
Re: Racial Deity Restrictions & Being a Druid
The fix has actually been in quite some time, I recently returned to scripting stuff and over the past week I've been trying to replicate this issue and haven't been able to.
So why it would suddenly work now for you and not in September I wouldn't know.
But I've been enjoying not having my deity revert on my elf over the past week.
If it's still happening to people we'll need more information from them as it doesn't seem to be the racial thing (at least, not by itself). Like build and selected deity.

Not all polytheistic systems have all nasty gods. Hinduism for example has literally thousands of gods most of whom are at worst neutral if not wholly good.
