Random Spawn: Swarm of Doom Stirges

Post by Jack Oat »

In the Jungles there's an area that will drop a swarm of Doom Stirges (roughly 10-15 of them). Each one has Epic Dodge. It's not a hard fight, but it's certainly tedious. Please either remove this as a thing, or at the least remove Epic Dodge from lowbie mobs like this. As I recall, Doom Stirges having Epic Dodge is a remnant of a past member of the Dev team's rather poor mob creation/balance.

At least it isn't a tiny snake that has 50 hp and epic dodge and 40ish AC.

The answer to both of these is pretty much any low level magic, but I still wouldn't shed a tear if they were tweaked or moved. Epic Dodge is a little much in areas made for characters with only 1-2 APR.

The issue with it is that they give you 0 XP from going through that hassle. I don't mind taking a while to bring them down, but doing so doesn't give you any rewards. It's just a nuisance of an encounter and nothing more.

If they were kept - because I can certainly see how swarms of hard-to-swat biting insects are thematic to a swamp - I would reduce them to 1 HP, so that any AoE can take them out easily. Even alchemist's fire would do the trick.
