Honestly? It doesn't have enough Red Dragons to be Red Dragon Isle either.

It has one really, really big red dragon. From a lore standpoint, thats more than enough.MoreThanThree wrote: Wed Feb 06, 2019 12:04 am Honestly? It doesn't have enough Red Dragons to be Red Dragon Isle either.

Re: RDI and the "Be Nice" Rule
technically it has two, it's just that one is weak and doesn't give good rewards. Ironically it used to be stronger than Abazuur, which was pretty funny. Also this thread is kind of silly, just cast your buffs beforehand instead of faceplanting through the portal, c'mon

We're no talking about one or two level 5 char's portaling to the edge of cordor being jumped and killed by hobgoblins...MoreThanThree wrote: Tue Feb 05, 2019 8:50 am "Just prepare for it" in response to bad game design is the same as telling someone "just don't get sick" as medical advice.
This is T-H-E R-E-D D-R-A-G-O-N I-S-L-E ! ! ! *cue dramatic music* this is seriouse business. Frankly, I find the request to change the spawns of this legendary place akin to saying, "Hey... could you make this high level zone easier? We need time to properly buff, assemble ourselves into proper formations, and make our attack."
Sorry. I don't buy it. In this case... "Just prepare for it" is -not- like telling someone just don't get sick as medical advice. It's more like "don't go to THE RED DRAGON ISLE" if you aren't prepared for THE RED DRAGON ISLE. *cue dramatic music."

That opinion is fine, but I still stand by my stance that it’s bad game design to do it intentionally. In this case it can’t really be helped so it’s fine but if “part of the experience” is death then the player didn’t have fun. They learned something, but they didn’t have fun.Durvayas wrote: Tue Feb 05, 2019 9:28 pm Unpopular opinion here...
I actually like that I get swarmed as soon as I cross through the ice road portal by up to 12 mobs.
It makes sense to set up an ambush there, and feels more realistic. Yes. The first time you portal there, if you aren't aware beforehand, you'll probably get killed. But thats part of the experience. If you're going to teleport into hostile territory, you need to be prepared for the hostiles in that territory. There's no good reason using portals should be safe from ambush.

IDK man I just know that I'd get a very stern talking-to from the DMs if I treated other players like the monsters on RDI treat us.

You'd also get a stern talking to from the DM's if you cheated in a spell sequencer like the mobs use. Or if you engaged other players without a line of RP like the mobs do.MoreThanThree wrote: Wed Feb 06, 2019 9:07 amIDK man I just know that I'd get a very stern talking-to from the DMs if I treated other players like the monsters on RDI treat us.

Re: RDI and the "Be Nice" Rule
I believe at its base concept it is a bad game design. You're going from one place to immediately being surrounded by mobs that you can't avoid fighting (unless invisible). To say it's not bad game design is to invite the question of why we don't place mobs on transitions of dungeons when we full know and well a dungeon will be dangerous.
However, unlike dungeons, which person's first time in a dungeon could simply be from unfortunate exploring, near everyone who goes to Red Dragon Isle knows it's dangerous from the get-go given the steps one needs to take to get there.
If we ignored that fact, we would have to look at it from a game design vs. a lore/roleplay design. Portals are definitely ingrained into the lore of Arelith. They're inherent abnormalities specific to Arelith, and it seems nasty sacrifices must be made to get rid of them. So, most likely the giants and other creatures on that isle can't get rid of it, so they would position themselves on that portal, a source of access to the isle. That means to move the spawn from that portal would question when game design becomes more important than lore/roleplay reasoning on a roleplay server.
In this case, we should definitely keep emphasizing the roleplay aspect, as you have to intentionally go to Red Dragon Isle, attune yourself to the portal, then access a portal source to go back to that portal destination. It's the fault of the players going if they don't see themselves buffed beforehand. I would only support moving the spawn if they had a dispel/breach spell that was the first spell in their rotation, which they don't iirc, or if a bunch of people were misclicking their portal destination because RDI was next to an important, often visited destination on the portal list.
