Make Favored Souls Great Again!

Post by Hin_Justice »

Like the title says... I have worked on a proposal-of-sorts to balance and tweak, as well as make FS a more immersive class than what is currently is (for those playing Grandfathered FS).

Here is the proposal for those curious and want to comment on it. Naturally, I thought I'd make this an open discussion. Enjoy!

I will admit I've only read the mechanical spell gains of the paths.
This looks TERRIBLE in my opinion. inficasting requires an entirely different dungeon balancing and it's been hell for the team to work with in the past. You may have made the path slightly weaker but the wider server balancing problem remains exactly the same. Making them tied on Piety means even more balance issues in that regard. It would make smart players find abusive ways to continue casting, and it would also mean that if you run out of piety you're left with no alternative to survive the dungeon. It's an nonfunctional path imo.

Also, you'd have too many winged characters in the server. WAY too many. ALL of them.

How about we don't try to force more infinicasters into the server when it's been very much the case that they break balance by their mere existence. Why not just make Favored souls what they are in the P&P, just a spontaneous divine spellcaster? Having a 'sorcerer of clerics' would be interesting and unique enough in itself as it is.

Either a version of the FL favored soul, which was admittedly worse a worse cleric, or maybe, and this is more complicated: use sorc as a base, lose familiar and greater spell focus infinicasting, gain medium armor prof, d6 hit die, counts as divine caster. Tag in, druid style, some radial spontaneous abilities that are 'cleric iconic' like raise dead, divine power, implosion, magic vestements. One per spell level.

We do have infinicasters. True Flame of course (though I feel their removal one day is inevitable) and warlocks (who are likely here to stay.) There are also cooldown-heavy classes like PDK and Assassin who aren't that far off.

I don't think weavemasters should come back and favored souls would have to be re-thought if they did return but infinicasters do exist in preset day Arelith and seem to mingle with the Vancian wizards relatively well.

No more infinicasters please. The fact that True Flames and Warlocks are still a thing is more than enough. If you want to cast more often, make wands and keep those for when the spells run out.

Even the current infinicasters have some serious issues. Warlocks have been around for what, 8 years now? And they're still not very well balanced. Fiendlocks can solo their way to 30 without any serious issues and feylocks even put through the wringer as they've been can trivialize the grind for a group by hasting the main damage dealer permanently and CC'ing everything forever.

Trueflames likewise completely trivialize all the PvE content as soon as they're part of a group that can guard it, and can nowdays even solo in relative comfort since they can chug ultravision potions to live in darkness while blasting everything that moves.

Neither of these classes are fantastic top-tier at PvP, I'd even go so far as to say they're balanced for the most part. But when they by their very nature make PvE a breeze I'd say there's some issues with the core concept.
