Armour Suggestions

We will file suggestions here that did not make the cut. Don't expect detailed responses, but the most common reasons are:

  • implementing the suggestion is impractical, or too much work for the gain
  • the suggestion is thematically against our design philosophy
  • the suggestion is too detailed/low-level
Keep your suggestions broad and focused on RP benefits, please, not detailed suggestions of how to fix everything.

Armour Suggestions

Post by Tashalar »

I have two suggestions, after talking to a few of the PC blacksmiths around the isle.

Armour Bonuses
Right now, it's frankly useless to make anything above bronze armour for Fighters (or Greensteel for the spellcasters). The Armour Bonuses from the Fighter levels essentially make armours like Mithril, or Adamantine, pointless. I don't know if the AC stacks! If it does, then ignore me, I don't really play fighter characters.
But would it be possible to have the AC of the higher-tier armours stack - even if reduced from max - atop the normal bonuses? That way, high-tier armour still has a -use-, and it's not just relegated to not being sold in most shops (I can find, of course) anymore because people just want to enchant Bronze instead.

Make it scaling.
1 DR for steel.
2 For Mithril
3 For adamantium.

Also, Make the dr only apply to the exisiting kind of damage.. So that to have 3 dr on all kinds you'd have to wear a full adamantine set.

Smelting Armour
This idea is from Nekonecro: Make it possible for armour to be smelted back into ingots. I'd suggest it uses a decent Forging DC (so you don't have people just having 1 point in Forging smelting Mithril armour, because it's a risky process to do properly) and a few CP (increasing obviously depending on the metal involved).
I'd probably exclude very low armours from this - so we don't just have people buying armour from merchants and smelting it for the ingots which would discourage the roleplay of going out and gathering it themselves/making parties/and so on. It would also give blacksmiths a bit more use in the way of 'I don't need this armour anymore, and I can't find anyone to sell it to - here, Blacksmith, can you smelt this into ingots for me?'
