Strange spell wasting glitch

Post by Vincent »

I recently rolled a wizard and have found it seems to be plagued by a strange glitch that wastes their spells per day currently, and two of my friends also playing wizards have complained of the same issue.

Upon transitioning to a new server you will have all your spells per day but occasionally after passing by an area or two, your character will abruptly perform some sort of spell visual (mine always uses color spray, because they have GSF: Illusion I suppose?) and suddenly lose many of your spells, seemingly at random. You'll then have to rest to get them back. One guess of mine is that this is the server updating to recognize you have casted X amount of spells on the server before transitioning back and forth, and now it's updating your character so the spells they should have lost are again lost. I suppose that would make it intentional, though I can't confirm that as it seems to happen completely at random. Even if it is intended behavior, it seems very strange that it only occurs after several transitions sometimes—the server tick, I suppose—and when it does it comes with an obnoxious visual (now that I'm sure isn't intended). I'm dreading the day I'm expected to roleplay as to why I randomly casted color spray in a crowded area without just saying IC "it's a glitch."

If it is a matter of spells that should be infinite (per your Spell Foci) - Those can be restored by casting another infinity spell from another focus.

The normal spells per rest will resync with either the previous server, or your previous spells committed in your spellbook from your previous time on that server. That would be why this comes up from time to time. Most often I see this resync with the hourly ticks.

From what I've seen, it recasts the spells you cast on that server before leaving, usually on the next area transfer after re-entering the server.

You shouldn't see this occur if the server restarts before you return to it.

Either way, the only way I've found to guarantee this never happens:
Rest before you transfer servers every time.
If you always rest before swapping, you shouldn't ever run into this issue.

If you forgot to rest before swapping, remember that for when you return.
Once you return, transfer at least one area so it updates your casts, rest if necessary and continue from there.

For what it's worth, I don't think the animation of the spell casted on transition can be seen by anyone else. I've had it happen to me a number of times, even just transitioning from area to area without going to another server, and no one has said a thing.

Hell, even happened in the Nomad once as I walked in. My Burning Hands didn't seem to bother anyone.

Unfortunately the only way around this is to carry a silly amount of booze and guzzle it so you can rest before every server transition. Not what I want to do, but it beats randomly having no spells and not being able to rest to regain them .. despite not having cast anything!
