Have Disarm give a spell failure chance

We will file suggestions here that did not make the cut. Don't expect detailed responses, but the most common reasons are:

  • implementing the suggestion is impractical, or too much work for the gain
  • the suggestion is thematically against our design philosophy
  • the suggestion is too detailed/low-level
Keep your suggestions broad and focused on RP benefits, please, not detailed suggestions of how to fix everything.

Have Disarm give a spell failure chance

Post by xanrael »

Disarm would now be dangerous against casters, but doesn't prevent them from acting at all like Knockdown. Have the effect last for a round.

As for the why, in the lore many spells require foci such as holy symbols/jade circlets/etc or material components (spell components). If you bat that out of a caster's hand their spell is going to fail to activate.

It could either be straight up a spell failure chance or as you have specific code in place for 7th+ spells checking for piety or spell components you could slip in code there to activate it. I'm actually less of a fan of the latter as it would mean stuff like Maximized IGMS is still possible but could understand given how you've implemented components/piety.

You could even combine the two so there is let's say a 30% spell failure chance on all spells, and 7th through epic spells have 100% failure.

I'm not sure how we could do this without just encouraging mages to keep their hands free.

Rejected.
