+15 Darts

Hate to be the one doing this but could we get these looked at?

Created I believe to be novelty for cheating at darts competitions they are now used to give Warlocks +10/11 (since they'd normally hold a +4 or +5 weapon) on their AB for ranged touch attacks as they just take the AB of the item you're holding. I don't believe this is their intended use given the lack of other +10 or better items around.

This is particularly relevant to dex based characters who should have a reasonable chance of dodging those attacks but now have that chance significantly reduced.

100% agree. +15 ab for touch spells is broken.

The NwNx team for NwN is already on this, a request to enable us to remove or specify weapon bonuses from ranged touch attacks was made some weeks ago, and should be added to Arelith soon.

EDIT: This has generated some discussion the team, as for some characters, most notably Warlocks, this is a serious nerf. Personally I find ranged touch attacks strong enough to entirely remove weapon bonuses from the equation, though a cap has also been suggested. Obviously this imminent change also plays into the Darkbolt topic, given each bolt requires a separate roll.

these darts should not exist, imo. warlocks are strong enough to live without them (they did for a long time) and they now also have very strong summons who only mages can send away through mords and wolf scroll (which takes 9 seconds if already hasted).

keeping them around for darkbolt would be even more outrageous since that would effectively give sharrans a better version of igms (they can hips to flat foot and they may not even need it with the darts, now they can also blind with shadow plague and bolts cant be countered through shield).

the removal of these darts would nerf what needs to be nerfed, is what i’m trying to say.

I can only repeat what I said in the above post, that bonuses to-hit derived from equipped weapons will shortly be removed/capped from all ranged touch attacks.

it would be best to remove items with insane bonuses in general. Basically when you expect a relatively low range of any ab/eb bonus and then see something that grants +10, that produces desire to flip the table and walk away.

Super throwing weapons look very out of place here and should probably give +3 bonus top.

How easy are these darts to come by? What Irongron mentions solves the thread's original issue.

The only thing you can complain is that one can make a dart build that is extremely good. That is only true if there is a steady supply of these +15 Darts, otherwise they are just useful things to have sometimes but are otherwise very much limited.

I believe I've run into some insane throwing items before hitting level six. I think it was something like +10 chance to hit. I'm not 100% certain, because this happened few weeks ago and I don't rememebr where I got them, but the location was a common one. It is possible they've been cut or nerfed since, as their estimated price went down from thousands to zero few days ago, and it looks like some of the crazy effects disappeared. Given that my char won't be able to hit a barn with a rock at point blank range, I eventually threw them away.

Please only cap them. I ask this as someone playing multiple feylocks who struggles to hit even WITH these bonuses in the first half dozen levels or so. Feylocks are already hideous to play prior to haste at level 12. We have no summon or decent CC early game to mitigate a nerf to our touch attacks.

For whatever my opinion counts for I think the +4 or +5 they have had forever seems fine enough.

I don't really understand why +10 and +15 items were suddenly introduced out of the blue when the previous absolute best was a single +5 item and the standard is at +3, it's a huge leap in power and even with rare drop rates it's very possible (and plausible) to stockpile these items.

And really the simple question remains: why.

Why would you add +15 darts.
