Is it possible that people with -notell active cannot send tells, and receive a notifier that -notell is active if they try?
I often get tells, sometimes questions or a funny remark, I would like to respond to but the player has -notell on and I have no way of communicating to them that -notell is on in case they forgot or were unaware.

Re: -notell
I absolutely second this. It is incredibly frustrating too to know that someone could send you tells without getting one in return. And I know of those that forget they have it.

Re: -notell
I honestly think -notells should be removed and people who disrespect your desire to be communicated with reported.
It's a lazy fix for what should be a token lesson of mutual respect.
("immersion reasons" discluded, being unable to communicate with people on an OOC level in tense moments or even to tokenly go 'hey brb' really, really sucks.)

Re: -notell
Is it an option? I get tells from people with -notells with occasional regularity and each time I cannot respond. This has been the case for years as far as I know.

Re: -notell
I think it's a great feature and should be kept, at least to some degree. Being able to block a specific player seems more vital to me than shutting out the world entirely- sometimes you attract someone who wants to hassle you but it's not worth getting a DM involved. Getting a DM involved doesn't usually solve the problem anyway unless the offender is really being egregious, they aren't going to ban someone because they ignore your requests to stop sending tells. I've been there a few times, it's just easier to block than get more parties involved.cowboy wrote: Wed Mar 25, 2020 3:53 am I honestly think -notells should be removed and people who disrespect your desire to be communicated with reported.

I do think shutting out the world entirely with -notells should only last until you log and then default back to "tells allowed" to keep you from leaving it on permanently.
I don't see it as "lazy" at all, it's actually pretty well thought out, but it does reflect a different time on the server when DMs were much more hands off and hundreds of random people were logging on a week so trolling was a lot more common.
Re: -notell
I agree that if you have it set to all -notells then you also shouldn't be able to send tells to anyone, also adding a cooldown to the -notells command to stop people from turning on and off again only to send you certain remarks while blocking you from responding in any way would be a nice feature if this was ever added.
I've often gotten tells from people, both friendly and not, only to find they have -notells on. Most of the time they're tells that require a response and the other person has -notells on and quite possibly forgot that they do.
Either that or remove it entirely because I do agree that OOC communication is very important, and immersion breaking or not it helps alleviate a lot of even more immersion breaking awkward situations. If someone is rude or mean to you in tells report them, the DM team are capable of handling it from there.
Alternatively i'd be down for using -notells to ONLY block individuals (persisting through resets), but at the same time blocking you from sending them tells too. If you don't want to hear from them, then you shouldn't be allowed to send them a tell either, plain and simple.

Re: -notell
I get tells a lot, but, so long as they are out of character... I don't mind in the least bit.
However, if someone should infect send a tell of something IC, I simply remind them that tells are not used for that, use the regular chat, and then try and keep all the ig chat in game, and OOC chat to tells.
I would never divulge anything if through a tell IE. There is a mass amount of gold over in the corner of some room with in some place with something guarding it.
I myself would never use this feature.

Re: -notell
notells is the only thing that makes the game tolerable. Removing it would be an instant dealbreaker for myself and a lot of female players. The amount of OOC nonsense you have to deal with otherwise is frankly absurd.

No. Sometimes you want to play the game and not do deal with somebody's nonsense, and -notell is a great tool for that.cowboy wrote: Wed Mar 25, 2020 3:53 am I honestly think -notells should be removed and people who disrespect your desire to be communicated with reported.
By default it is best to assume that person who has -notell on has no desire for ooc chatter, and insisting on communicating with them this way is disrespectful towards them.
If you wanna chat, there's Discord.

To reiterate: I don't think it should be removed but facilitate that it's a two-way street, or at the very least let the sender of the tells know they have the script active and can't receive a reply.

Sorry if I am mean or something....but....What does this has to to with being female or not?ReverentBlade wrote: Wed Mar 25, 2020 5:30 am notells is the only thing that makes the game tolerable. Like....how does even someone get to know that player controling that character is female..?
I simply dont get it....like you have lower tolerance for mean or nonsence tells? Or that you are targeted more often for some unnown reason?

This thread is quickly approaching disaster, and the thing it wants to do is already done. Maybe lock it before it gets worse? Much as we all love a good fiery slow motion crash.

Are you really asking why privacy functions are important for women on the internet? That's either a very naive question or just bait. Either way, use your imagination, and then be assured that yes, its happened.
Re: -notell
Just one clarification, does that message pop up if you have the -notells that straight up blocks everyone turned on? The image suggests it's a targeted -notell on a single character.
But if so then that's all good with me, exactly as i'd like to see it, and it's an addition I wasn't aware of.

I use notells with a whitelist. You get the message even if its a universal block.

Its bacisly text based RP game..Like....how can someone even gues that you are girl? (if you dont tell them first or have login name literaly something like "Rachel")
And its not like someone can send you D pic in tell

And even if someone gets that you are female...and starts to be ofensive...what stops you from reporting them to DM....
Like...what idiot would even try to "-tell" something ofensive or sexists, or anything like that in PG 13 game/server....its like asking for insta ban...

As a girl you're much more likely to be harassed and being hit on. That's why it is necessary to have feature to block all private communication or specific users.

DM takes time to respond to reports, while notell is immediate and prevents a random idiot from ruining somebody's evening.

Well, fine. List of sins my partner and I have had to deal with that made us switch over to notells:
Mansplaining why your character feels a certain way or took a certain action to try and influence my IC response. Its inappropriate and unsolicited, but not a rule break.
'Jokes' and witty commentary their are neither funny nor actually witty. Again, unsolicited conversation I didn't prompt or ask for, and now you've jarred me out of character. Not a reportable rulebreak.
Passive-aggressive commentary when my character declines your character's advances. The number of dudes that throw out a "my poor character, boohoo" type of comment is weirdly high. No thanks. Gross, but still not a reportable rulebreak.
"Do u have Discord?" Not for you I don't, buddy.
Endless boring babble about builds and class spreads and powerbuild and...I just don't care.
Outright sexual harrassment. Not common, but notells keeps it uncommon.
All of the above happen far more often to female-seeming accounts than they do male. Its just internet reality.
There's basically no instance where I want anyone to go OOC with me for any reason. 99% of things can be handled ICly. Notells is important to facilitate that, otherwise I'm just constantly telling people to back off, which makes me seem like an Snuggybear and puts even more abhorrent green text on my screen.
The alternative to notells for keeping my screen clear of nonsense is going to the DMs for every annoyance, and that generates a lot of unnecessary drama very quickly.
I really wonder why people feel its so important for them to have the ability to inflict themselves on people to where they are actually suggesting that notells be removed. It boggles me.

1) I gues I am speaking and acting too much manly...I gues I should work more on my RP

2) Realy? Teach me senpai! (just for curiosity...didnt know that you could send actual pictures somehow)
3) Well...yeah...but it still..how often this happens? and with reporting it you would maybe add work to DM but at same time help clean our server, and save some other ladies with not disabled notell their evening...
4) Realy? Never thinked about it....Its just habit...it helps me to not think about proper sentence creation (not english native speaker) and at same time it mimics my speach patern...I tend to make pauses in my speaking....often in middle of sentence...to think about next words and same time to add specific tempo to my talking...but I gues it looks weird

But main point is....from my experience and outlook....Doesnt some ruined evening outweight that sometimes (much more often) you get some seriously ruined days and bad feelings from some IC interactions or PVP situacions ? Which could have been easily dealt with/helped by few quick OCC tells? for example I hate it when I try to write something friendly or informative to someone and then I saw that they had notells....That kinda ruins my evening

Dont remove it...
I can see it would help even me in some situactions...I can see its good that you have option to speak with someone only IC...
I am happy that I live where I live....
Just to coment on this...
"I really wonder why people feel its so important for them to have the ability to inflict themselves on people to where they are actually suggesting that notells be removed. It boggles me."
I usualy use tells and find them usefull in PVP, or generaly when one character is dead....So you can make sure they are fine (some situacions can lead to anger or bad feelings without proper OC talk and explanation)...or ask them if they want to ress...(bcs some people dont like that...)
Or when I simply need to go grap pizza or phone call in middle of dungeon...and I want to let others know that I "brb"...
Or for kuddos....Like..."Thanks for great RP. It made my day"
