Permanent Essence's

Post by a shrouded figure »

Description
==========
My +2 Divine Damage permanent essence removed +1d4 positive damage that was added at the enchanting basin.

Steps to reproduce
----------------------------
1.) Buy Mundane quarterstaff from store
2.) Add +1AB
3.) Add +1d4 Positive Enchantment
4.) Apply +2 divine permanent essence

Expected result
----------------------
A weapon with +1 Attack Bonus, +1d4 positive Damage, +2 Divine damage

Actual result
-------------------
A weapon with +1 attack bonus, +2 Divine damage (I even got the warning that it was going to do it)

This isn't a bug, Perm Essence will always remove any Enchanted or Perm essence already applied.

As an example..

You would need to apply the Perm Essence and then Enchant the weapon to obtain the multiple DMG. In the case of weapons have additional DMG by default, this will not be removed with a perm essnece.

If you were to get a Runic weapon with.. Say.

+4 Enchant
+1d6 Cold
Keen
Runic

You could add a +4 Essence and then enchant it with a 1d4 to get both DMG applied. If you enchanted the 1d4 and then added the essence, you loose the 1d4.

The resulting weapon would be

+4 Enchant
+1d6 Cold
Keen
+1d4 Divine
+4 Fire
And a cheeky +4 Temp if you wanted

Wiki:

Other elemental (fire, divine, etc) damage bonuses will be removed when applying an essence, including elemental bonuses originally present on the item. The exception is elemental damage bonuses added by the player through Dweomercrafting. All other elemental damage bonuses will be replaced by the new essence. (Other enchantments such as physical damage (slash, etc) bonuses, keen, enhancement bonuses and weight reductions are not effected by adding an essence.)

So can I go and edit this paragraph on the wiki?

Also, adding a perm essence will 100% remove the 1d6 cold in your example- please do NOT spread that around as people will ruin weapons.

Since when? I have had a Moonblade that did not suffer the wrath of the perm essence

That’s because moonblade is 2d6 vs undead as I recall. From what I’ve read it doesn’t overwrite vs other things damage

Wiki is totally wrong.

@Cookie: If you're talking about the divine damage, iirc specific elemental damage (e.g. damage vs. X type) doesn't get deleted by essences.

EDIT: shrouded mentioned it before I did! Hah!

I did notice my weapon is +1ab +2 positive, not divine. I wonder if I mistakenly used a positive essence on a positive enchanted item- I’ll investigate more tonight
