Combined Playerlist - Yoink, Scry, Images

I understand the stated reason for the combined playerlist, which was that people would use it to either hunt Underdarkers that were on Surface, or troll transition areas.

I have to object to this solution, however, as there are still abilities that are server dependent. Namely, that of the Epic Spell School abilities of Yoink, Scry, and even Project Image.

These first two abilities require you to be on the same server, and if you want to be able to connect with the other character, you have to know what server they're on. With Project_image, you can either get a ball of Light, which I've been informed does not identify whom the sender is (the [] are OOC), so you may just send a light with no identifier to a character. Additionally, part of the attraction and allure of Projections is being polymorphed and sending the spell in a different form. With disguises possibly mucking up the in-game player list as well, it's made even more problematic.

The only (not very good) solution, beside reverting to the previous system, I can personally think of, is having these abilities come with a way to tell which server they're on. It would thematically make sense with divination, at least.

Im very confused by the “cross server images” thing, why have the name in brackets at all if that’s not IC information? My assumption there was that the whole reason the name is attached to the ball of light at all is a concession to mechanical limitations

Agreed with triad, all around. Especially scry and yoink, its going to become very difficult to use them and require a lot of trial and effort and chasing names across the IG playerlist, which as we all know is ordered in no particular order and jumps around constantly.

Though, I am also confused, I assumed that was why the name was included, also, since it can't import your toons appearance cross-server, but a Projected Image is supposed to be obviously from that person.

Were you informed this by a DM? As far as I know, it is to identify who it's from due to the appearance being a mechanical limitation when cross-server.

Does the in-game list still work the same? Because I'm one of those weirdos that only uses the in-game playerlist to send tells/invitations.

I've always been under the impression that you always know who is yoinking or sending you images. Hopefully a DM can clear this up!

My interpretation is the project image's words is the character's voice. As long as you have had some prior meeting with a yoinker or a projecter then you can conclude it is X person, or if disguised broken their disguise before, etc.
