According to the wiki, Spellsword imbues are supposed to stack with essences, as long as the essence is already on the weapon when the imbue spell is cast.
This doesn't seem to work if the essence type is the same as the imbue type. It displays correctly on the weapon itself (currently using a Damask Longsword with a +2 Permanent Fire Essence, so it shows +3 Attack, +3 Damage, +2 Fire, +1d12 Fire, On Hit Effect), but the character sheet only shows the Imbue damage of +1d12, omitting the additional +2 - and this seems to also be reflected in the actual damage dealt.
As far as I can tell it works if I imbue with, eg., a Lightning spell.

Same type damage doesn't stack, you'll use the highest average damage die I believe.
Thankfully this team is no longer being used.
