Using permanat essence on an essenced item is broken

Hi,

On the PGCC I used the wrong permanent essence and then tried to override it with a different one,

it didn't work out as expected:

1) I got the message:
"Applying this essence will overwrite one or more of the target item's existing properties.
Use the essence on Masterly Scimitar (Damask) again to confirm that you wish to proceed."
2) I lost the essence:
"Lost Item: Essence (+4 Positive Energy Damage, Permanent)"

i'm guessing that second stage should only happen after confirming and not during the initial attempt...

You loose the essence the moment you use it. In this situation you should have found a replacement essence of the same type in your inventory to use to confirm.

If you read what he is saying, he is describing the situation as follows:

1: Uses the essence on the weapon.
2: The essence asks him to use the essence again on the item to confirm he wants to overwrite.
3: The essence then consumes itself, meaning he cannot use the essence again on the item to confirm.

This is pretty basic. It's obviously bugged. You don't use 2 items to "confirm", just like you don't use two Abeyant Templates to confirm you want to rune an item, or delete 2 characters to confirm you want to delete_X2, or any number of other confirmation dialogues in game and in every other game ever.

The game then tries to apply the essence, notices that there is a conflict and prompts you to confirm. A new essence that is identical to the last is placed in your inventory. I mention this because it is easy to not notice the new one if it is placed in a different inventory window since it is placed in the first available slot and it is possible the OP just didn't see it had moved.

If there is no essence to use at this point then the bug is that the replacement was not given to him.
If you want to confirm, go try it yourself. If your lore score is low enough it makes it easier to tell it is a new item since you have to identify it again.

Hi, I retested this, no replacement essence is produced, you simply get the text and lose the essence.

I tested this on the Surface server recently. It worked just fine for me - the replacement essence was generated as normal.

I guess it could be a bug only on the PGCC?
