-alwayswalk

Post by Skibbles »

I've been using this feature more and more lately (playing a race with keen senses) to reduce stress on my fingers from holding the drive walk key.

When something breaks out, whether pvp or just a situation where you suddenly need to start running, it can be pretty awful to suddenly realize you're stuck in walk mode and need to mash a string of symbols/text with perfect accuracy in seconds to get out of it.

Since we have fancy hak stuff (like being able to cast teleport, ward, and other things through the radial) is it possible that -alwayswalk can have a radial option as well just like move silent and detect mode for non-elves?

This would very much help in a lot of situations.

Sorry if I misunderstood, but you can walk to places as an elf as well without holding down a key. Shift + mouse click should have you walk instead of run.

I keep the command on my immediate action bar thingy so like when pvp is getting close I usually toggle it on and off so I know where I am at haha.
I am not on a team.
I do not win, I do not lose.
I tell a story, and when I'm lucky,
Play a part in the story you tell too.

It's possible, but it seems unnecessary. You can right-click on an empty slot in your quickbar and type -alwayswalk as a custom text macro and it'll work just as well.

I'm not a big fan of the need for more things on a toolbar that already can't even hold a full spellbook.

With the super goofy pathing system I find myself mashing shift constantly, and you can't accidentally/purposefully click on fixtures or transitions without breaking into a sprint again making more need for shift mashing and clicking.

I don't understand why a radial option would in any way put a greater difficulty on anyone. I'd even think it might be easier for new players to locate or be aware of it being an option in the first place.

Its just something that someone needs to code and spend time doing, rather than coding something else, or even doing something else entirely so... while you can just quickbar it or hold Shift... maybe its not so urgent.

Ha I'll totally agree with you there. Not urgent at all!

I have no idea how code works or anything like that. I hoped it was a matter of copy/paste of one of the other new functions and then the simple -alwayswalk macro, but nothing is ever that simple is it?

After many many years of barely playing casters and really struggling to fit all my spells in the quickbars when I do play casters I started practicing manual casting and I now only keep stuff like -pray, heal/haste pots quickslotted and then I still have plenty of room for offensive spells I will want to quick draw in the right time. Its worth practicing the muscle memory of manual casting if you see yourself playing casters in the future and it also really helps your sense of improvisation when you're in trouble.

An alternate option is set the "Drive Mode Forward" option to a key. It's under Options>Controls>Change Key Settings>Drive mode Forward. It's natively unassigned. I prefer to set mine to F. That way I got W A S D for running and I hold F for walking. Granted, this doesn't really work for people who prefer not to use W A S D to move about over the mouse click.

Also don't know what your quick bars look like, but you could also just set the text macro on an empty slot with -alwayswalk.

I use drive walk all the time, but lately I've been using it so much it's causing joint stress so that's why I use the alwayswalk.

With twenty wands and ten different types of scrolls and a full spellbook I absolutely manual cast most of my magic and it just still isn't enough. It took me quite a while to figure out which slot to eliminate to put in the walk macro, and even then I have to juggle that slot. It's just a fuss is all.
