The Missing Barricades

Post by Archnon »

So, I get the new mechanics of barricades and why they are designed to deteriorate. They were being abused by players to obstruct paths with little point to RP. It sucks that if you want some of them for, say a scheduled raid, you need to store them in a chest now which takes up valuable space, but I see the reason. However, as I say to my wife when i clumsily drop a mug on the ground and break it, "this is why we can't own nice things".

However, there are a number of areas on the server that seemed to really benefit from those barricades aesthetically and functionally that now no longer have them. Playing mostly in Brog and the Grotto, the gates seem really bare now. As does the path into the quarry in the Grotto. I can't help but think of those super weak NPC guards there that are now just getting blasted. I'm sure players can think of a few settlement specific locations that could benefit from this to help the guards at that location and keep hostile mobs from getting in.

What do people think of putting in permanent barricade fixtures in locations like this, and is there any chance the dev/admin team would consider it. Something that can't be moved, gets refreshed on reset, and fits with the theme of defending a space, especially surrounding gates/doors/entrances where we already have NPC guards set up to keep hostiles from entering settlements. I really love what was done in this regard in Skal recently, partially in response to players putting up fixtures and abusing this rule.

A Suggestion:

Approach the Dev's / DM's with a solid proposal. "If we collect an additional X amount of wood / iron ingots to represent the yearly upkeep of the barricade, will you please consider placing (at dev discretion on placing) a barricade here?"

Then gather X amount of allies and toil away with RP'ed effort to make it happen.

Even if the Dev's say no -- or you have to jump through extra hoops. Do it anyway.

Change can happen on the server, but each settlement community needs to show they want it.

sounds like a good way to expand the settlement system more - pay out resources, adds guard patrols and NPCs and defensive PLCs
