rare crafting materials
I'm a new player, so take this with a grain of salt, I guess.
As far as I know, there's no way to find mithril out in the world, other than either buying it from a permanent character owned shop (where there is lots of it) , or taking part in the server reset footrace to get to the well-known mithril veins. Is it possible to find really rare stuff at times other than immediately after a reset?
If it isn't, shouldn't it be? Why would a server reset have anything to do with the presence of rare crafting materials? My suggestion would be to have a rare crafting material show up, every place that it's possible for it to show up, some small percentage of the time every time the "resource node" respawns.
Like I said, I may just not understand how this works.

Re: rare crafting materials
As you get higher in level, it'll get easier and easier to find the rarer metals, because your access will expand. Adamantine will likely always be a challenge, though.
Mineral deposits spawn in pre-set positions and are either fixed, or governed by a tier system, based on the level range of the area that they're in. In a low level area, a given deposit might spawn as tin or copper, whereas in a mid level area, it could spawn as zinc or mithril, among others. Once depleted, a deposit will respawn after the area it's in has been empty for a set amount of time. If I understand the system correctly, the deposit will also degrade to a lower quality mineral after it's been mined a certain number of times. Because of this, deposits can't be specifically targeted and mined out, since there's no way to say with absolute certainty where they'll be. (unless they're fixed) Everyone has to search the likely locations and hope for luck.
It's tough at first, when you don't know the areas, but after a while, you're going to laugh at how easy it is to go out and gather up mithril. In the meantime, I suggest finding friends to help you locate and mine the stuff. Mithril is, after all, meant to be an uncommon resource. It wouldn't make sense for it to be easily available to every newcomer to the island.

Re: rare crafting materials
As far as i know there isnt any race to mine mithril after a reset, because its specifically after a reset that you cant tell which veins are mithril or something else of the same tier. Once you see a mithril vein somewhere, it will stay with the mithril spawning every 6 minutes or so (as long as there isnt anyone in the area to hold the respawn of the mobs and the vein) until the next reset, where then the vein gets the roll again to see the type.
On places with zero traffic (otherwise thats not a good idea as you interfere with the players coming after you), if you find a mithril vein, you can (doesnt means you should, lol) keep mining it for as long as you want for every 6 minutes, changing areas back and forth so the vein spawn again alongside the mobs. Same works for adamantine and any other vein really. Only for runic chests that there is a very long cooldown per player.

Just worth mentioning here it's illegal to log out next to them. Adamantine and runic chests, that is. Just a reminder.wulfburk wrote: Sun May 31, 2020 4:20 am Same works for adamantine and any other vein really. Only for runic chests that there is a very long cooldown per player.

Okay, this seems a little more complex than I thought. Maybe it isn't so bad.

Get involved in a racial community or faction and ask some people in character where to find some. They will likely take you.

Re: rare crafting materials
For some unfathomable reason, metal nodes change randomly. I don't know why this is for lower and mid-tier metals, it's silly and annoying. I get why you might do this for adamantine, but others? No.
For God's sake, "arjale" should never be anywhere but Baator. It's a thing.

Re: rare crafting materials
For how rare and expensive it is, Adamantine is pretty underwhelming for armor. Mithril gives +2 AC and +1 Unisaves, plus it weighs less. Adamantine only gives +3 AC. Pretty much every major spellcaster build ends up with more AC than a Fighter in full plate adamantine armor thanks to Dex and monk dips or EMA. So I haven't really had to worry about adamantine since I made the decision to stop playing mundane melee classes and only play casters.
Runic materials are fun to farm. Until someone bashes the container and you have to wait for a server reset for them to respawn. Then you can run the dungeon seven or eight times and get nothing. I think it would be nice if we either make them respawn like regular chests do, or make them indestructible so people can't bash them. Right now someone can go around bashing these runic chests and essentially grief the entire server since no one will be getting any loot til the next reset.

Nothing quite raises the blood pressure like struggling through an epic dungeon only to find Zinc waiting at the end for you.
Runic chests do respawn at the loot refresh like regular chests. But unlike regular chests their loot doesn't respawn in minutes, but hours.NPC Logger Number 2 wrote: Sun May 31, 2020 11:07 am Runic materials are fun to farm. Re: rare crafting materials
I can confirm that they do not respawn until a reset. If they do it takes at least twelve hours or more. I ran the same dungeon over half a dozen times yesterday at regular intervals and it did not respawn until the server was reset.Nitro wrote: Sun May 31, 2020 2:49 pm Nothing quite raises the blood pressure like struggling through an epic dungeon only to find Zinc waiting at the end for you.

Edit: For additional info, I bashed the regular chest and came back later. The regular chest had respawned but not the runic one.

Re: rare crafting materials
There are a couple of things to consider. Being in an area halts the respawn timer. And someone else might have been through between your own attempts, either re-bashing the chest or simply halting the respawn long enough for you to not get it on your next run through. I've myself done the same dungeon over and over and had the rune chests respawn after a couple of hours. (It's also possible that the dungeon you're talking about has bugged chests that don't respawn, some of them do that.)
