Auto-log out
It doesn't take menu clicking into consideration, like if I'm doing a lot of reading from a bookshelf and clicking through menu options. Is there any way to detect that a menu option has been selected to avoid being logged out while reading?
Also, what actions count towards not having it auto log out? Like if I'm in a lecture and I don't want to interrupt it, can I just send myself a tell?

Re: Auto-log out
I can only presume that any of the actions who restart your rpr tick afk timer will prevent you from being booted. That does not include most or all dialogues because they are a cheesy way to keep RPR ticks coming when you are in fact not interaction with anyone, not even an npc. I believe it's an oversight and that it should include all dialogues because they now include bookshelves and more single player stuff that is purely IC. Maybe there's something else there.
That's a legit way to remain in character while you're not afk but got nothing important to emote./whisper *Clears throat* or *Shifts in seat*.

Also any - command refreshes you. So if you just want to avoid being disconnected, hit -date or -save once every 20 minutes.
Re: Auto-log out
Really loose idea here but I wish there could be some sort of "-lecture" or "-meeting" command that would let you sit in on a lecture or performance without having to emote to prevent being booted and, more importantly. freezes your rest, food and thirst.

If this is true (I havn't checked, but I'll believe it, and I'm very happy it's the case) then when in a meeting just type that once every 20 min.Nitro wrote: Sat Jun 06, 2020 9:14 am Also any - command refreshes you. Or make an excuse to do a small emote *cough*. *Shifts in seat* *frown*
This too shall pass.

Re: Auto-log out
The auto-kick doesn't seem to function in rest areas like taverns, where people are most likely to AFK in the first place.

Re: Auto-log out
After sitting in a nearly three hour meeting and watching multiple people get kicked, I would like to request a small addition to this.
Please, in the combat log in red letters put something like "You have been inactive for too long. If you don't do something in the next 5 minutes you will be logged out."
I think that would solve a lot of the frustrations of people who are sitting in meetings, or reading books.

I believe a message already exists. Not sure what colour it is. A sound effect ping would be nice also!

Re: Auto-log out
Has anyone had trouble on Distant Shores booting you too soon? Like after 5 or 10 minutes? This happened to me a couple of times now.
Considering I've lost a property due to the timer expiring way faster than it should and I've heard others complain the same I think that server's clock might have some issues.
I'm kind of curious about the "why" as well, are people going AFK a huge resource drain or is it just that they are an eyesore? I'd wonder if it's something that should kick in when the servers are getting full but maybe it's not necessary in the off hours?

Re: Auto-log out
I'll bring tis up to the dev if people are being kicked too quickly, and maybe suggest a personal sound effect.
The reasons are as follows
a) It's immersion breaking to have people standing around, doing absolutly nothing, for hours and hours and hours on end
b) It takes up server resources
c) It actually helps save characters. Multiple times I've found characters dying of thirst/hunger/ect because their players have literally fallen asleep at the keyboards.
d) it prevents abuses/mishaps, like people talking to the writ giver for hours and blocking it from other people. You arn't supposed to attack folks whilst they're afk, but if they're taking up portal dialogue, or shop dialogue, or something irritating than that- few other options may be avaiable. This at least provides a time limit for that.
e) I belive that, for the most part, this game should be activly played. Sure we all go afk for periods, somethimes longish periods, as a breast feeding mother I understand this. But if you can't manage even the tiniest of emote, or movement, or command in about 20 miniutes of game time, then maybe you need to re-evaluate what you're doing?
Again - I get people can spend a long time read/writing whatever, and that's fine. But the ways to prevent the script from kicking in are numerous and very easy. Just a small wriggle of movement, a quick type of a command, or an emote, or anything should prevent it.

Re: Auto-log out
Well. I do understand the need to remove AFK players especially when the server is full. But I think the 30 minute limit may be too short in some instances. Arcane Tower lectures or Cordor Playhouse performances can take 3 or 4 hours with one person doing most of the speaking, and I don’t think having everyone in attendance emoting “scribbles notes” on a loop adds anything but text box spam (as one example.)
Or, when I play off-off-hours, I may have a character parked in a spot like Bendir to see if anyone shows and it can easily be 30 minutes before I see anyone else. Or, I’ll often wait in my character’s quarters while waiting for someone to meet or get ready for a dungeon run or take a phone call IRL or whatever and it’s nice to be semi-AFK to be able to see tells or Speedies. This is “passive” instead of “active” playing, yes, and I know the answer is going to be to “emote more” when in such a state and that’s fine. I’m not arguing just pointing out that 30 minutes in The Hub on a Saturday afternoon EST is not equal to thirty minutes in a less popular area at Monday 1am. I just think the time could be extended in some areas or times of day.
Just one opinion of course and not expecting anything to be done about it.

Re: Auto-log out
I think boosting the timeout to an hour would be good as well.
Re: Auto-log out
This should already exist, and should also be color-coded red, funnily enough.theCountofMonteCristo wrote: Tue Jun 09, 2020 3:47 am After sitting in a nearly three hour meeting and watching multiple people get kicked, I would like to request a small addition to this.

What would be even better is if the warning could be seen by all and simply said something like "ZZzzzzzzz" indicating they have dozed off.

You can do this as a whisper too, probably as a tell, and it sounds like - commands might as well.Wuthering wrote: Tue Jun 09, 2020 7:39 pm Arcane Tower lectures or Cordor Playhouse performances can take 3 or 4 hours with one person doing most of the speaking, and I don’t think having everyone in attendance emoting “scribbles notes” on a loop adds anything but text box spam (as one example.)
