Thieves Cant
I've never been thrilled with this language and it doesn't get used all that frequently, although that might be a good thing. I certainly like the idea of short messages passing through but it isn't subtle or secret at all because people emote differently to how the language presents them and most people always know if you're speaking in this super secret rogue language. I'm just wondering if anyone else feels this way? I rarely see it used, though as I said that could be a good thing. If I was to make a suggestion however, I'd say that it could benefit from translating various common words into Cant alternatives - swapping "shop" for "fence" and "guard" for "copper" for example, or simply randomly generated cockney inspired gibberish - though would require a lot of work for something that might not get used all that much unless people think that it would be an interesting idea and utility.

The "cockney inspired gibberish" instantly reminded me of this scene in Austin Powers!

It's being removed.
Re: Thieves Cant
They just changed the requirements of rogue levels to use it.

Re: Thieves Cant
YMMV but I've gotten pretty decent mileage out of it because I use the *emote* style so it actually blends and I've managed quasi-secret conversations in front of people before.
I can see how it'd be a pain if someone likes to use [emotes] or "speech" style though, just cos it's not supported by the way Thieves Cant is set up.
Biggest problem I ran into was the popularity of Rogue Dips for Sneak Attack/UMD so a whole bunch of atonal characters all understand the super secret Thieves Cant language just because they needed something for a Build. Like, I dig it, your straight laced noble fighter wanted to used wands, but if you've lived in the lap of luxury and just joined the guard, how'd ya learn all the secret hand-signs man!?

I believe it may have already been (recently) updated so that you gain the language after at least 6 or something like that levels, rather than just 1-3.Ninjimmy wrote: Mon Jun 08, 2020 7:44 am YMMV but I've gotten pretty decent mileage out of it because I use the *emote* style so it actually blends and I've managed quasi-secret conversations in front of people before.
