Spiders

Post by Baron Saturday »

Oops, accidentally posted this in the Shanty. Let's try this again!

Spiders are among the least rewarding enemies to fight on Arelith. With a host of obnoxious abilities that must be prepared for (web bolts, poison bursts) and typically minimal drops, there's rarely any reason to fight spiders instead of pretty much anything else.

Could they have a chance to drop spider silk? It's one of the tougher materials to get in any quantity - having visited multiple settles every day for the past few days, I've only seen it in one expanded warehouse, which suggests to me that the demand is pretty high.

Generally people just go and get silk from the spider cocoons when they need it, a few tailors might stockpile for crafting it but it isn't that valuable to settlements as a resource, they'd rather have wood/stone/etc. I agree it is not very rewarding to loot a spider and find nothing on the body. In Skyrim the Frostbite spiders at least drop venom you can use on your weapon, maybe in addition to silk there could be a chance for them to drop Spider Venom. Then Rangers/Rogues/etc. could hunt them as a source of poison for their blades and arrows.

Tailors, Carpenters and Herbalists all use it and it can be made into bolts of cloth to get settlement Cloth numbers up. It also takes several strands to make even one thing, sometimes to the point of needing to hit three or more cocoons to get enough for one thing.
I think it would be great if there was a chance spiders drop it!

I think this is a great idea. Trying to gather spider silk is horrible, it would be great to have more options.

Or have them drop things to make more exciting poisons and things like that.

Along with that, I would love to see poisons be more universally stronger. I know there are a few, but poisons adding damage + possible stat reduction would be gold. Anything to make them be more interesting and useful than essences.

Or even better, make perma-poisons wwhich may require some significant investment, but something with +4 damage and even something like a low possibility of stat drain (fishing for 1s) would make something that is universally shunned by "goodies" actually useful to employ.

Sorry, did not mean to derail the thread and go off onto poisons. But inspiration knows no bounds!

Pretty much anything I can say on Spiders I've already said on this thread:
