Not a bug or anything, but still a nice to have. With monstrous regeneration, you'll get a status icon so you can quickly check if it's still active and when you're at full health, nothing is shown in the combat log.
In contrast, regenerate has no status icon and it'll spam the combat log with "Charname: healed 0 hit points" every round at full health.
Regenerate is less elegant than monstrous regeneration

IIRC, Monstrous Regeneration still runs off of a modified version of the actual spell, while Regenerate has been replaced by something custom to accommodate its variable output.
