Secret Knowledge of the Explorer

Post by Might-N-Magic »

Seems rather weak and lame, especially since it's a one-time thing and rather useless once you get it or are level 30. What if it also did helpful "explore-y" things like cut down on sailing times and remove the randomness of traveling via sailing, and areas like the Lost Desert or Abyss? Go where you want to faster.

I don't disagree, but I think if such bonuses are made available to one class, other classes, races or backgrounds should also be able to access them.

Perhaps Pirates and/or a new Seafarer background could grant the faster travel times on ships, or Rangers the ability to navigate the Lost Desert. Etc!

I think we need to be careful not to give Loremaster too many unique perks, because while one or two of them might seem insignificant, the total amount unlocked over 10 levels alongside the scroll bonuses is not, IMO.
Too many QoL additions to loremaster will make it hard not to pick the class for one reason or another.

Just gonna copy pasta my post from the loremaster thread.

This is entirely a bait feat. Terrible trap even. I dont know who would even feel a tingle of difference in leveling progress. People who sit in hubs after epic lvls and drain their A-exp pool dont really benefit from this and those who dont sit in hubs will normally get to lvl 30 with a-exp excess of 5 digits. I suggest removing this entirely. Or just giving it for free at lvl 5ish.

Well we are supposed to be getting that "secondary skills" system Any Day Now (tm).
I don't really consider it an issue that they have such a perk. I mean, the class quite literally has almost no offensive or defensive value. No high BAB. No damage boost. No caster level increases. Given what is available (epic spell focus effects, saves, +1 ab/ac) this would be so very low priority, I doubt even with my suggestions anyone would take it vs any four of the listed above.

I agree that this class is very economy focused and that it's still quite far from being a relevant factor in pvp meta. Its all out of combat utility for the most part, and a terrible late game dip for skill dump. We're very deep in the safe zone.
