Re: Quarterstaves
Rangers only need to use blade thirst. Hexblades only need to use curse weapon. Spellswords, admittedly, have to use GMW plus their imbues.Might-N-Magic wrote: Tue Aug 11, 2020 6:30 am Sounds like the problem is multiple weapon buffs at once, not staves.
Look, I'm not arguing that the quarterstaff is the root of all evil. I'm a huge fan of the weapon, and if nothing came of this thread I would be perfectly happy to continue using it. I just wanted to bring attention to the fact that quarterstaves being large weapons makes them a straight upgrade to other dual-wield monk options. My first post, admittedly, didn't articulate this as well as it could have.
Rolled: Helene d'Arque, Sara Lyonall

Re: Quarterstaves
Sounds like the problem is the monk dip, not the QS. My str non-monk ranger utilizes it as the only feasible dual-wield option as it has feat synergy with other polearms. Sure, he gets 6 APR at OK AB and reasonable dmg against fav enemies, but his AC barely creeps over 50 with self buffs and imp expertise before tumble kicks in at later levels.

Let's not buff halflings by giving them the best monk weapon, mmkay?Archnon wrote: Mon Aug 10, 2020 12:58 am Make it a medium weapon so Hin and Gnomes could use it too.

tbh a stick is a weapon that should be acceccible to everyone and the size category of this particular weapon should reflect the size of the wielder... because it's a damn stick that can come in any size and still be a stick.

Re: Quarterstaves
Look, I get you. I really do. The fluff, the flavor, the roleplay. Sticks belonging to only tall people sucks. But the fact still remains, the objectively best staff users are dexers and the best races for dexers are small races, and small races have loads of other tiny benefits to them. If people are already complaining about qstaff being OP then how much more so when a svirf spellsword takes your knees out while a halfling rangermonk clubs you in the head with it?AstralUniverse wrote: Thu Aug 13, 2020 9:45 amtbh a stick is a weapon that should be acceccible to everyone and the size category of this particular weapon should reflect the size of the wielder... because it's a damn stick that can come in any size and still be a stick.AskRyze wrote: Thu Aug 13, 2020 9:41 am Let's not buff halflings by giving them the best monk weapon, mmkay?

Re: Quarterstaves
Two cents because i can't keep myself away from the forums.
Kamas vs Qstaves.
Qstaves: Large size difference +2ab (and disarm bonuses)
Kamas: Poison.
With 10 APR, i honestly thing poisons can offset the benefits of 2ab from a largehand to make kamas equally as viable. Some of the poisons in arelith are outright scary, and, even if fortitude is 40+, you're getting hit enough to roll a one at some point in time. Not only that, You can poison a different effect on each kama.....
Negative energy protection, whilst low on the breach list, is easily breachable which is most characters only defense to the crippling poisons. Some of them will only need to Trigger once to change the outcome of a battle.

Without a doubt, goblin kama users can be fantastic. My concern of qaurter staff is how it interacts with disarm meta as a finessable weapon. I have no ab concerns as disciple kamas have really good ab toogodhand- wrote: Thu Aug 13, 2020 10:57 am Two cents because i can't keep myself away from the forums.
