New slaver's tower transition crashes game

Description
When running from the Coastal Path to the Slaver's Tower, or from the Slaver's Tower to the Coastal Path, NWN immediately crashes upon loading the map. After logging back in, it loads the map just fine, but transitioning back instantly crashes.

Steps to reproduce
Transition from Coastal Path to Slaver's Tower. Transition from Slaver's Tower to Coastal Path.

Expected result
Map to load without crashing NWN

Actual result
NWN crashes.

Any time I'm in this area I'm crashing repeatedly, pretty sure it's the new fog.

RP only starts at 30 if you're a coward.

It happens to me as well, mostly on area transition. I've tried emptying my override folder (or ovr folder now I suppose) to see if that might interfere, but I still do crash. Not on every transition, but it doesn't take long to get a crash if I just keep switching between the same 2 areas (like 1-3 tries for a rough indication). I'd write my game version, but I'm not sure where to find it? I haven't changed it myself, so it should just be the most current one for steam.

Can any of you confirm if this happens only in Underdark (Middle) Coastal Path (Slaver's Tower), or if it happens along the length of the Coastal Path? Does it also happen at the Outpost exterior, or the Great Stairwell?

Tried both with and without a light source. Both entering and exiting from both transitions in "Underdark (Middle) Coastal Path" causes the game to crash to the desktop.


Addition: From Underdark (Middle) Coastal Path before the Giants area, to Underdark (Middle) Great Stairwell. Party member crashed, but I didn't.

I am having the same issue. My Game Version is 81.8193.15
I can come into the Coastal Path Middle from the Stinger area Coastal Path but I crash going into the Slaver Tower Area and then Back into the Coastal Path middle from the Slaver Tower Area. Seems like after that first crash, I will crash coming or going from any transition form the Coastal Path Middle. Back to the Slave Tower or Back to the Stinger area. And then trying to go back to the Coastal Path from the Stinger Area, which worked the first time.

I can take a portal to the Slaver Tower Area, or use a Lens to leave it, no problem.

Here are the Transition issues in order of testing:
Outpost ---> Stinger Coastal Path Middle ---> Costal Path Middle = Fine
Coastal Path Middle ---> Coastal Path Slaver Tower = Crash
Coastal Path Slaver Tower ---> Coastal Path Middle = Crash
Coastal Path Middle ---> Stinger Coastal Path Middle = Crash
Stinger Coastal Path Middle ---> Costal Path Middle = Crash (Used to be fine)
Costal Path Slaver Tower ---> Slaver Tower interior = Fine

Having the same issue. Game version v80.8193.13 [3ba0f825].

Just to add: It shuts the game down entirely, and when I check the player list on Portal, I can see that my char is on another server (random surface/Cordor), and I can't log on again, before 1-2 minutes, when I see my char name disappear on the player list.

The Coastal Path are the only areas (except for the reskinned Dreadnought) to use our new texture override library. While I didn't encounter this type of crash during testing, it seems to only occur on some configurations, and I've now been able to replicate it. I am closing in on the potential culprit (with the aid of Symphony's expertise and insights) and hope to have an update on this soon. Your patience is much appreciated.

It happens to me as LawfulJoe described it. I might emphasize these things as they hopefully narrow it down:
  • Some transitions into an area work while others do not.
  • The crashes happen while the game is loading the area, not while walking about the area.
  • Occasionally the crashing transitions do work, repeating the transition several times should help reproduce it.

For example, standing in the Slaver's Tower, exiting into "Underdark (Middle) Coastal Path (Slaver's Tower)" works - i repeated this about 15 times without a crash. However, going into the same "Underdark (Middle) Coastal Path (Slaver's Tower)" from the adjacent "Underdark (Middle) Coastal Path" areas crashes (repeated about 4 times, each time crashing on the first try).

List of areas ( "Underdark (Middle)" omitted from names ):
(Also, some transitions where just called "Coastal Path", but I've named them differently here to distinguish between Coastal Path areas)

- Coastal Path with Outpost transition in the north-east corner - works coming from the Outpost, but not from the Coastal Path area on the other end.

- Coastal Path with "Coastal Path (Slaver's Tower)" transition in south-west corner - crashes both from "Coastal Path (Slaver's Tower)" and the Coastal Path area on the other end.

- Coastal Path (Slaver's Tower) - works from Slaver's Tower, but crashes from Coastal Path areas on either end.

- Coastal Path with "Coastal Path (Slaver's Tower)" transition to the east - seems to work when entering

- Great Stairwell - crashes when coming from the adjacent Coastal Path area.

Settings used for testing:
- Cleared ovr folder (Symphony shaders, transparent ui, colored icons etc.)
- Turned off advanced frame buffer effects, shiny water and some other video options (like sky boxes and environment mapping, but these haven't caused issues in the past so probably not important).

Same thing is happening to me. Ultra hard crash, on transition into the Slaver's Tower area, I've never seen before.

When I load back in I get the Gigashatten load screen as if I'm loading in fresh after a restart. All my wards are gone and my spellbook is refreshed too.

EDIT: More messing around with trying to get in (I got writs here after all!). I was able to load into the Tower area for a while. I even finished inside the Tower and made it out without a crash. I continued to the Great Stairwell, without a crash on the area in between where the Deep Glen is, but crashed again loading into the Stairwell area.

I will be working on and uploading modified versions of these areas tonight that will be less pretty but won't cause these crashes. As a side note, Symphony is smart and also very handsome.

I am getting the crash on the Coastal Path to Great Stairwell transition as well.
