Can you 'become' Shadow Mage Ingame?

Post by Skarain »

As title.

Is it possible to take the Shadow Mage path later on to a character's career from a NPC found ingame?

Or is it locked to "only available at creation" type of a thing?

Wiki says a NPC exists ingame, but I'd rather confirm and be safe, than trust in one source and lament later.

Thanks!

I did pretty extensive research IG on this, went everywhere I would think it would be a thing, and came up very empty handed.

So we're very much on track.

I asked on the help section in discord and got a few replies. To answer your question: Yes and no.

There is a NPC but they aren't in the module. This is way more FOIG than anything else in the game, given you'll have to actively RP to get to them. To rephrase, it's a DM NPC. Good luck!

This isn't making sense in my head. If the NPC doesn't exist in the module how can one's active RP lead there?

I don't know why we are making this so hard to understand. What it feels you are saying is that the NPC cannot be reached without DM aid. Which seems to imply you may, after making appropriate RP, ask a DM to take you to the place where this NPC is.

The answer is realistically no but it's theoretically possible to have a DM change you, is what that basically looks like.

So no, start as one.

Rephrased my post. It's a DM NPC. Only accessible by FOIG means.

Alright. Thank you for the answer. I merely wanted to know if it was possible, in case a character later on their career might be inclined to pursue such a path. In such a scenario, epic RP and extensive research, many Selune altars desecrated and sacrifices made. It's the journey, not the destination, after all.

I always thought it was there was an NPC, like the old warlock npc's, but as it became something you could take at startup the npc sort of went away to being there only if needed.

There is an NPC but presently they aren't in the module as a static NPC. A DM can spawn them on a request if there is a desire for the path to be taken after character creation.
