I'm kinda halfway on that, and it definitely depends on the situation. I'm of the opinion that if you're out deliberately looking for PvP with unsuspecting players, you should always offer some sort of out, even if it comes with an IC cost. Anyone going around starting random PvP just for the kills or to indulge their ego should be permanently removed from the community. However, if someone has "opted in", through any of a variety of actions, I no longer feel any obligation to let them back out. Starting a verbal conflict, UDers slaving on the surface, surfacers going down to the UD to stir up trouble, pirates hunting ships, or anything else like that is direct consent to get rekt, in my mind.

I genuinely don't think it is misleading. You are going to be effected by others actions in this game and there really is no consent required for these actions, both hostile and benign, to effect your character. A great roleplayer provides nuance- that doesn't always mean a guaranteed out. But, nuance is not required. You're assuming I'm defending the PvP hound but I'm critiquing the few that harp about consent as a way to control what their character experiences- a behavior I've encountered throughout all my time on Arelith.

What Ork is clearly trying to say is that some in the community has an issue that you need to ask permission from the other players OOC if you may act against their characters/factions or not, be it settlement elections, taking away a property, etc. Not just about getting permission to PvP the other.

And there is entitled who think their characters/factions should be given free tickets to walk away or asked permission if we may act against them, no matter what these players have done and thinking they deserve special rights. Yet these same players never ask any permissions from the others they act against.

But back to the topic about the gate, glad its solved and still push idea for giving room for the monster races on the surface.
