I’ve been thinking about this for a while and want to see what other's opinions on the matter are. Currently u believe the only way to play an effective “Death Knight” archetype is to go some route toward melee PM which pigeonholes you into a specific build route (usually some combo of classes with 16 levels of PM).
While this may be fine for many people, I’m willing to bet that there are probably some out there like me who would rather play their Blackguard in this way to avoid some of the PM RP. The problem is that PM gets a lot of stuff that makes them appealing to melee and their undead are really strong to boot.
I’ve been playing Blackguard for a little while now and have always felt that once I got my fiend, there really isn’t much point in summoning the undead unless the friend is on CD. Their stats aren’t as good and the Doom Knight has fewer attacks per round than the previous undead summon IIRC.
I believe that giving Blackguards a choice to go with either option would be ideal. I think buffing the undead to be on par with the fiends would help a lot with this. It works be even better if a new year were added like Epic Fiendish Servant that would unlock a new undead. If there were a way to make it exclusive to prevent taking both them that would also be great.
Am I alone in this line of thinking or have others thought about these things as well?

Re: Blackguard Undead Summons
I think necro-blackguards would be amazing. I would roll one up immediately if it was mechanically viable!
That sounds like the coolest class ever. Who doesn't want to be a Deathknight of some sort?
You're not alone. I've for a long time wanted to play a character like that, but the current options just don't appeal to me.
