Talking about rods.
With the UMD changes, it's made taking more than 15 UMD mostly not-done unless you are using a UMD 30 weapon. As most good armours/weapons take far higher UMD
Enter RODS
Rods would be single charge use-items that can have more charges added.
Art or Woodworking --> Make's blank Rod --> Spellcaster (With craft Wand) Casts spell on blank Rod
Blank rod becomes "Rod of X" with 1 charge. Cast multiple spells to add more charges
So I would cast 5 Mordekainens Disjunctions for an exorbitant amount of Gold to create a Rod of Mordekainens (as an extreme example) which would have a higher UMD cost to use.
It could be spells from 4-6 or 4-7 if 8 and 9 are too powerful to have as wands. Some spells should not be rod-able
