Instant Cast Invisibility Purge

Post by NauVaseline »

My issues with this are as follows:

1) Under the assumption that the spell sequencer-esque instant casts for mobs are meant to simulate pre-battle buffing, which I'm totally for, Invisibility Purge is a short duration spell, even extended, and doesn't make sense to be lumped in with the other spells that get cast by divine NPCs without divine NPC's metagaming you're coming
2) It's incredibly obnoxious, but hardly dangerous. Sometimes it'll catch a tired solo-grinder unawares or hurt someone punching far above their level but in all honesty Invis Purge just means you're either not slotting II's at all or you're resting a lot. It's an inconvenience.

I think a better implementation would be to have them have precast see invis & ultravision instead, and they can go to cast invis purge as an interruptable spell.

It is kind of dangerous in that it removes the conceal effect of improved invisibility. Between that and the darkness bug that also does the same improved invisibility can feel pointless to cast lately.

I find most areas that have a mob that casts Invisibility Purge is balanced accordingly. Except for Reavers, they have both high AB and cast Invisibility Purge. Also, it's not a short duration spell, it lasts turns per level.

What bug?

Totally thought it was rounds. If it's turns/level I can't recall it ever lasting the full length when I've cast it on a cleric.

It totally does but it's sort of weird when I cast Invisibility Purge in the Battlefields to deal with those Improved Invis spamming Necromages. It seems to force me to recast continuously in order to purge the conceal effect. But other places it doesn't wear off until my other turn per level spells wear off.

I think the main point here is this is a spell that should be in the offensive/dispel category.

Which means it Should not be in the instant cast to simulate prebuffing category.

It's fine to be in the normal list with a high priority.

But instant casting cannot be interrupted or dealt with.

It's less extream, but along the same lines as if there were normal dungeon mobs that instant cast mords or IGMS, totally uninterupterable as soon as the engine detected you were near.

Yea, you've explained it better than I could.
We used to have frost giant mages that would instant case Mord's and this ability was removed
