One day I'd love to play a strength ranger, but the thought is a daunting one considering their terrible AC until epics - I know nothing about how the game is coded but would it be possible to make a special allowance for Tumble to atleast consume skill points at a rate comparable to a class skill, but still capped at the 16(15) skillpoint cap.
TLDR; Getting a couple AC from tumble early without wasting skill points while still maintaining the 'integrity' of having to cross class to gain the full benefit of the skill.

While likely possible- this would open a huge can of worms for balancing with regards to the myriad of classes that require x skill to take which typically makes some combinations not work because you have to wait so long to take the cross skill locked class (shadow dancing weapon masters comes to mind)

Use a shield and combat expertise early levels or party members or super animal companion henchmen.
Re: Cross Class Tumble and Skill Points
I think at one point the devs said someone was working on a system to refund cross class skill points once you take a class that has it as a class skill, but that the dev working on the project was consumed by other things/flesh eating bats.
