Vanishing Inventory (Potential Pickpocketing Bug?)

I don't know the issue here, but recently (within the last few days) two items have disappeared from my character's inventory: a scroll case and a large shield. I did not sell them. My inventory is not full. I did not drop them. They simply have vanished with no message indicating they've been "dropped".

Is pickpocket working as intended? If it is, how do certain items keep vanishing from my inventory?

I've had similar situations happen too with the only related featuring being the same shadowy person trailing me.

Can't say for certain but I think something might be goofin'.
