In times like this, I have to remind myself why I play this character, it's for the story, not the mechanical benefits. Otherwise, I would roll my character and play any other class. I'm seeing the same issue now as when they were added, Favored Soul was given a pat on the head and Shaman got most of the love. On top of the NERF to Favored Soul, they get 5 items and Shaman gets 7, Favored Soul gets 1 useful staff, the Shaman gets 2 even more useful staff options. It's nice that they finally got some gear, maybe I'd be happier about that if they didn't get slapped while being given a gift.

This to me is a failed class and it's clear no one else sees it. To anyone that is thinking of making a Favored Soul, save yourself the headache and make a Cleric or a Shaman.

Favoured soul fits in a very tight niche rather than a failed class. But i think if you give clerics the same skill number of skill points, the description might be apt.

I do feel for you playing a caster type, but i think the class ultimately wasnt build for it in mind. As it cant access the healer path it is inevitably inferior to a cleric as a caster type. The new items are largely for the caster type but even being very strong i still dont think the items make the caster archetype appealing.

On another note, thank you to the devs for the rebuild.

Imagine having devs give meaningful attention to your character's class in the form of class-tailored items and improved quality - and then looking at what everyone else got and spitting in the devs face for it.

I've been waiting for the Favored Soul to get attention since it was added. I've played only this character in that time and when they did finally get attention, the items they get aren't on the same level as other class items. Then they get a nerf being told it's a buff because nobody can live without extending their Haste. I don't mean to seem bitter or ungrateful, it's because of the devs that I have any content to enjoy at all. But if I could have seen the future of the Favored Soul back when I made my character, I would have gone another route, this isn't the class I thought it was. It's just a spontaneous casting melee cleric, it's not meant to be any more than that.

Yknow, I really don't think you've any clue what you're talking about. Let's look at what the items offer:

2 L6 spells
2 L5 spells
1 L4 spell
2 L3 spells
2 L1 spells

Your largest complain was spells per day- that got answered.

Lets move on. Most of the items can be easily created with common materials. That means they can be enchanted a few times. Whats even nicer is that most of their attributes don't count towards disqualifying them from runes.

In addition, you can meet your entire CHA needs through these items alone. These items are clearly marketed towards caster FSs because battlefs doesn't really need the CHA.

The cleric spellbook is a tough book to balance. And, you're right this class is more appropriate for melee - everyone knew that when you have the cleric spellbook attached.

You're being needlessly hostile to a class that's still being tweaked. I guarantee you that's pretty counter-productive if you want FS to receive further attention.

Honestly, for myself not being able to extend the haste was off putting to me. Making the spell part of the book is a selling point to me where I would want to play one.

Also the items they got were nice. I don't care if it got 5 vs another class that got 7.

Just focusing on the three items added with the extra spell slots, the staff, the helmet, and the amulet. You gain 1 level 4 spell, 2 level 5 and 2 level six. That does sound nice when you say it like that. You also lose a level 5 known spell, raise dead, slay living, flame strike, whatever, you simply know 1 less spell now. You also lose 4 castings of Haste, so that minus 4 to level 5 spell slots, effectively.

So in order be less impacted by the nerf to Haste, you have no choice but to wear this gear, otherwise, it's a flat -4 level 5 spell slots, but you can mitigate that by putting on this gear and getting back 1 level 4, 2 level 5, and, 2 level 6 spell slots. Making this a very weird trade-off to me.

You're probably right, I don't mean to offend, only to be blunt in what my concerns are. I do apologize.

Truthfully if we're looking at caster FS, the most bang for you buck in slot 5 are (pick 5):

Must Haves:
Haste
True seeing
Spell resistance

Situationally Nice:
Flame Strike
Raise Dead
Energy Buffer
Healing circle

I'd drop raise dead & slay living. Slay living just isn't worth it at 3d6+cl damage or a low fort save that really no one will fail.

Curious why the 4x Haste was stripped. Was it an instant action or quick action?

Haste as a spell last longer, can be extended and is generally just better than a fixed CL haste on your character's "skin".

It lasts the same, rounds per level. Whenever I would cast Haste followed by all my rounds per level buffs they would all fizzle out at the same time, including Haste.
