Raise cost for town crier

Right now it costs just 1 gold per hour for a local town crier. To try and combat all of the slander in Guldorand I paid the crier 5k to shout more wholesome messages. He's still shouting them. I did this on February 22nd, 2 weeks ago.

The Town crier will absolutely not shut up, he is noisy and horrible. It would be nice if the cost could be upped so if people want to pay him to slander someone, they'd have to shell out more cash. OR, put a time limit on messages. Like he'll only shout for 4 IRL hours maximum. Or both of these things. The town crier in the Guldorand square is incredibly disruptive.

Please make it 10k minimum and decrease the frequency.

Agreed. Some of the shouts seem borderline ooc trolling.

Just decrease frequency and more importantly time limit.

Higher minimum just discourages lower levels from making stuff happen; while still costing vthe rich nothing. Also immersion of paying a town crier that much?

Be nice town crier only shouted certain times of the day too.

I'd argue that most players outright ignore the criers, and especially in the UD where the criers are also spamming pit fight results, their existence discourages RP in their vicinity.

As for low levels: Let's be real here, there's event channels in both the official discord and every faction discord, which are going to be far more effective than criers at rustling up event attendance. They're redundant at best and an active detriment to RP at worst.

Just use them for DMs or City official use one.

Wipe the crier message queue on server reset. If someone wants to keep messages up they then have to actually actively keep paying the crier, rather than doing a one-time lump sum deposit.

Perhaps crack down a bit on people who use it for silly/troll/ooc mean messages? Oh! and those people who try to "speak" for the crier.
Or even make it so instead of the crier repeating the message as it is have him also say who gave him the message?
Something like "X says: message" or "message - From Y"
Least then folks in game can track sillier messages down to a smaller number of players even if it's a disguise name.

I think the original post is misleading. But I mean no offense to the original poster. A lot of this 'slander' is legitimate RP as far as I am concerned. I agree that some of the stuff I've seen is just kinda tossing out insults and nothing much else -- but this is stuff that is already completely acceptable elsewhere in the game. Characters can say it. Or they can anonymously post it to boards. Or leave letters in the open/on people's doors. You can already do so much with just a little bit of effort, and I like that. I'd encourage any of these interactions to leave a path for more rp or get characters interacting with one another, but sometimes people just like to ICly toss mud.

Naturally I think there is a line where 'RP' just becomes pointlessly going after someone and be a rule break, but those situations are for the DMs to determine. And we as players have the right/encouragement to file reports.

But I do think some limits should be on the Town Crier. Personally? I'd suggest a limit to message duration and only allow so many concurrent messages floating from a PC at a time.

I don't care that people are doing slander and libel. That's part of the game world. My point is I paid the crier 5k to shout some extra things, and he's still shouting them 2 weeks later. And now the crier is constantly screaming and spamming my chat bar, and it's a hot mess. I wish people would not congregate in the square, we could congregate in front of the front gate. Away from the town crier.

Oh! Yeah! It's crazy seeing some of these messages still going LOL! I disagree with the cost raise cause it's a good way for new characters to put themselves out there though.

I think the biggest issue is placement. Criers in Cordor and Andunor tend to be in locations that PCs most commonly have foot traffic through, rather than stop to chat in a group. That sort of placement is far less disruptive to ongoing social interactions.

The issue with at least one of the criers in guldorand is he's smack dab in the Guld equivalent of the Cordor government district square, or Andunor's Hub (and if criers were in either location for those other mega-settlements, it would be incredibly annoying).

Argument for discord is not exactly valid as Arelith's policy is to not have players rely on such and do everything IG.

Town criers going 24/7 imo could ve tweaked though. Especially with cage matches.

We won't be doing so, we also won't be removing anonymous unsigned messages.

As for the thread itself, such instances are to be reported. Those who want to misuse the mechanics can and will pay any price to do so. This doesn't change that. So this isn't a valid solution to that particular problem.

idk man, only being able to have one town crier message running at a time, limiting it to X RL hours, and upping the cost slightly does actually seem like at least one way to curtail it though
