New Types of Drow - Udadrow, Aevendrow, Lorendrow
Can read some of the information here, but apparently it's going canon:

Would this be interesting to be added to the server?

Retcons in later editions do not impact current edition lore we are locked into because they are made for later editions to use.

Which is unfortunate, really, because the idea of Lolthite drow being a minority would probably work better with the way Andunor is set up.
Rolled: Helene d'Arque, Sara Lyonall
Shelved: Kels Vetian, Cin ys'Andalis, Saul Haidt
Playing: Oshe Jordain

Freth and Claddath are two (extreme) examples of setting-specific divergences we've made from Canon, and my eye are on the drow (and some other races) to broaden their lore horizons in a more accessible way in the future. Unless word of Irongron comes down saying otherwise though, none of the new official lore applies on Arelith at all (for the same reasons as stated above).Baron Saturday wrote: ↑Mon May 24, 2021 5:13 pmWhich is unfortunate, really, because the idea of Lolthite drow being a minority would probably work better with the way Andunor is set up.
Done.

the new Lore is being done so that they can use the Drow in the main stream TV series and be more Politically Correct.

5th ed changes are stupid to begin with, once more into the D&D for dummies genreDiegovog wrote: ↑Mon May 24, 2021 3:46 pmCan read some of the information here, but apparently it's going canon:

I'm anxious to see how this turns out. I genuinely hope it isn't a retcon, but is rather as RA Salvatore said in an interview "I'm not changing anything. I'm expanding".
And 5e changes aren't all that bad. Bringing back Bhaal and Myrkul is a plus (as much diminished demigods). I'd kinda hope they would have been revived here on the server. Would have loved to play as followers of either gods.

Hilarious. Let's agree this never gets into our game just like the rest of 4e & 5e lore. Looking at you, feywild.

I honestly have no objection to the change what so ever- in fact I think it's quite interesting. But I'd be suprised if we decided to add it to Arelith.
It's not entirely fair to say we're -entirely- 3rd ed material, but thus far we are keeping it so for the majority of stuff. Adding this in would be a large departure from that.

This too shall pass.
(I now have a DM Discord (I hope) It's DM GrumpyCat#7185 but please keep in mind I'm very busy IRL so I can't promise how quick I'll get back to you.)

Not a single whodadrow? Udadrow! In here, from a server that's been making the same Dis joke for a decade? For shame.

Whoever wrote that article isn't doing this change any favors.
"...live a life of the kind of environmental harmony that would give a Republican a coronary. "
Way to turn off half your audience guy.
"It’s great to see them moving away from the harmful stereotype"
This is taking the point "If you are more offended then the victims of said stereotype something is wrong" to a whole new level, since you know...drow aren't real.
That being said, the underdark is fun to some, and while I would be concerned that this would take away a big part of what makes it appealing at the end of the day what do I know? Drizzt is getting some magic the gathering love too, with he and what looks like his buddies from the new game they are talking about in the article all getting cards in the forgotten realms themed set coming out in a month and a half, so they aren't kidding when they call this "The summer of Drizzt".

And would be a large mistake. Faerun's color-coded elves (Moon/Sun/Winged/Sea/Dark/Wild/WildLite/Star ect ect.) is already really poor world-building without embracing it further. The GrumpyCat wrote: ↑Mon May 24, 2021 11:39 pmI honestly have no objection to the change what so ever- in fact I think it's quite interesting. To quote a recent discussion about the changes...
I see the okay intentions, WOTC, but... really?"see look we fixed our race problem"
"now its more representative of real life, black people are EITHER evil OR savages OR eskimos!"
I exist to describe the world around us.

Re: New Types of Drow - Udadrow, Aevendrow, Lorendrow
I still see no reason why people think drow are "Black people."
Closest race to "black people" would be either Wood or Wild elves (or green elves, depending on edition).
Whichever of the 3, wood/wild/green elves were always painted as a noble and enlightened race whose lands and ways are threatened by greedy murderous humans invading and stuff.
In fact, green elves were slaves too in their past (enslaved by dark elves to boot!), and are currently hunted for sport by idiotic humans (Tethyr).
Re: New Types of Drow - Udadrow, Aevendrow, Lorendrow
I stated and deleted a specific response to some of the above, then I realized that this is not the place. I will say that making connections to giant swaths of actual humans with fictional creatures based on their shared suffering is tone deaf. Let’s just not. We risk a tug of war with reddit to see who is the more uneducated and still willing to speak with authority.
Can someone please lock.

... I get the why of the change, but if the Aeven and Loren aren't evil, what makes them different from regular High/Wood elves besides the pigmentation?

This has diverged into badness and is going nowhere. Locked.
