Settlement leadership by PCs needs to be shelved, Paladin RP is poor
Currently, the settlement leadership system, seems to have developed toward making 'content' of players in ways that are not productive to having a healthy community. Quite frankly, it has lead to OOC communication channels of Arelith becoming like Twitter during an election cycle, and that is now spilling over into IC. 'Winning' RP isn't going well for anyone, and the settlement political system has, and remains, a major contributor to it.
In short, it incentivizes bad actors within player blocs.
I think it should be shelved for now. It has come to a point where it is a net negative for the strife it brings to the community and the bad actor behaviors it fosters versus any gain of immersion and contribution to Arelith community IC and OOC. PC leadership of settlements is making immersion harder and harder to find, because it is leading to so many glaring contradictions, and road blocks to fun roleplay, that IC that you can no longer get around it and just delve into the RP without being drowned in the baggage of other PCs mistakes in leadership roles and need to engage in a game of thrones.
Also no more multi classing paladin, its just making the sad state of paladin roleplay even worse by existing. In fact paladin, with how poorly Lawful Good is being RPed right now with many incidents of lying IC, using weasel wording, constant lawyering, demagoguery, polemics, sophistry, etc is looking more like the 'How to roleplay Lawful Evil' section of 3 e's guide to devils. I am being one hundred percent serious, if DMs did an audit of paly RP right now it be mortifying. And it isn't the player's per say, extremely tough class to do justice to in RP. That said, unless consequences are being handed out for the extreme 'Better to ask forgiveness, than permission' style of RPing lawful good that is going on currently, it is just gonna keep getting worse till it is made a restricted class in some way anyhow.
If you are RPing your paladin with little emphasis on the G in LG, and playing fast and loose with the L, you need to go find another class to play, no really you do. RPing a paladin means being on the crap end of the stick in a lot of interactions, as a principal of 'It doesn't matter what they do, it is what I do.' It is, despite what some think, a class of people engaged in Hellish amounts of self assessment, not judgement of others. Wanna go about judging others theocratically, that is what holier than thou clerics are for, I'm serious.

I hate that you are having a hard time with the settlement system and paladins but, this is not really an appropriate use of the forums. If bad things are going on I would suggest writing up a concise report about what you see as the problem with specifics and sending it to the DMs. Other than that? It could be a good time to take a little break from the game and come back with the intention of having fun.

I'm fairly sure OOC communication during elections of any kind is already a bad practice. Wouldn't you lose your ability to participate in elections if it was reported enough?
It just seems a bit unfair because it does breath life in the settlements for the cities. It also makes wilderness and lawless areas appealing because it doesn't have the bustle it has in Cordor. I mean, does anyone really hear about the massive power plays in Bendir Dale? There's elections and it feels like an idyllic farmstead to the outsider and I'd argue that's all pretty immersive.

It is feedback for what I see happening. And how I see it effecting others.
As for myself. No actually not having a hard time, because I have chosen to IC wise on my main stay as far, far from the settlement system politics and its consequences as I can manage. So that whole section is given from that perspective.
The paladin as well, having a great time on my alt paladin, lots of fun. Playing a pure class in character of one. But largely because I made the character to be likewise far out from what I am seeing, on the PC fringe.
As for the advice of,

I'd say that isn't going to be very constructive toward other's feedback because of the assumption it makes.Curve wrote: Tue Jul 06, 2021 3:18 pm It could be a good time to take a little break from the game and come back with the intention of having fun.

Well, this topic won’t go the right way. So I locked it. It’s going to stir the pot and lead to poor responses.
