Environmental Damage Overturned

Post by RedGiant »

Tried Baator/Minauros for the first time since the update, and the damage was seemingly hovering around 15 acid a round. Not sure if this is a bug or feature, but IMO this is way too high.

It has been 10-15 for a looong while now. It now requires specialized equipment or other schenanigans.

Basically you want either:
1.) Bard Song with Oozing Orchestral for 15/- Acid DR.
2.) Craft Acid Resistance gear with Tailoring. Ankheg Gloves alone give 10/- Acid DR and 5% Acid immunity, more pieces for more Acid immunity total.
3.) Shapechange: Balor for 15/- Acid DR.

Initially I was somewhat against the change, when the damage increased to stupid extents, but now it kind of feels cool. It is an epic area that requires specific preparations that can mostly be met with gear, and some magic helps. Plus, it gives that gear a real purpose.

Not everything need to be convenient.

A defensive essence is specialized equipment and kept out the worst of it in the past. To be completely prepared, you stacked this on an minor immunity item. Now this tactic, even on a healer or druid with regen, can't keep up. This is over-tuned.

I am aware there are other in-game options, but a large area mechanic that requires either shape-changing, hidden epic bard songs, or multiple-item immunity-stacking (let alone a specifically made pair of gloves...sorry monks!) seals the deal.

This quote is what sent me to investigate. I haven't been there in an age, so your reemphasis leads to the conclusion this is a feature. Still maintain this is over-tuned. The rain effect also doesn't consistently visually pop, at least on my end, so you just get the green acid damage blob vfx. Throw in some mire beasts doing their thing and it can be visually confusing as well.

So to clarify my position, 2d4+1 seems within the threshold of reasonable and counterable by a wide variety of builds without too much shennanigans. Recommend bringing Minauros down to the hot/cold standard.

There’s a huge amount of specifically tuned to acid immunity items available. Make a special set for going to a particular place!

RP only starts at 30 if you're a coward.
