Enhanced

Post by Hazard »

So, this is not an Arelith bug, but I'm hoping someone who knows better than me might recognise the issue and be able to help me anyway. Again, this isn't a server/Arelith bug, it's something that's happening on my side.

Every few months my game will freeze in an odd way. No visuals will move and whatever sound is playing will begin to repeat like a broken record, but I can still type and the chat box will update, though I'm not sure if anyone can respond to it or see it.

I've narrowed it down to having something to do with the 'settings' file, because when I have a back-up of it available I can simply replace it and get back to playing, but when I don't .. I am forced to reinstall the entire game.

Any idea what could be going on with my settings file? Does anyone else get this?
It's been happening ever since we moved to enhanced.

You should check your GPU for overheating and try updating drivers.

Normally this kind of thing happens when the whole system freezes, or if the game crashes. Because if it loops sounds, it means sound system is no longer writing data into the buffer (meaning audio thread is dead or froze), and if the renderer does not respond, it means it is dead or stuck in infinite loop. Normally when this happens the whole application crashes at once, so being able to type something and see the letter means that something even more funny is going on. Hardware and driver glitches are one of the possible reasons for this sort of thing.
Another forum ban, here we go again.

Okay, thanks. I will monitor the temp.
Come to think of it this DOES tend to happen in and around summer .. and I do live in Australia >_>

Clean your dust filters and cap your fps somewhere reasonable.
