Area Load Times
I've noticed some areas are taking muuuuch longer to load than they used to. I'm not talking about vs many years ago or before EE either, I mean since maybe 2020. The Mountain Village outside Brogdenstein for example often takes a minute and a half and I don't think that was the case 12+ months ago. Is this an unavoidable consequence of progress? Does it have to do with pictures in the load screens which is where I first think I noticed slowdown? Is there anything I can do in settings to speed loading screens along? My computers should be more than able to handle a game like this so don't think lack of power, RAM or whatev is the cause. Thanks for any help (unless you're going to tell me to buy a $2000 gaming machine with extra neon, which please don't bother)

Re: Area Load Times
I found running NWN on an SSD helped quite a bit. The mountain village takes about 5-10 seconds to load, and many areas are only a few seconds each.
Though I think the area does need a look at, it is one of the longest loading areas for a lot of people.

I've noticed it feeling like it is taking longer to load to more in the last few months.
seems to have been a slow thing, but now especially on the surface it feels like alot of places load very slow.
Which is really annoying, since when you are scrying people it doesn't actually take into account that you have actually loaded up the page. So there have been many times now that I've tried to use my scrying on the surface, only to get a loading screen, about 6 seconds of actual visual, and then another loading screen. On a ten minute CD.
It's rather frustrating.

It allows data to be stored in a different way than your usual hard disk drive (HDD).
Imagine your HDD is a vinyl record. To access data the vinyl player requires the vinyl to make complete spins to read what's on the vinyl. Now, a SSD is like a teleporter. It knows where the data is, so it immediately ports it in.
Great investment, though still expensive for most.

Type -scry 2min ingame. You can swap between 1 and 2 min duration with a command of -scry Xmin. If you are a Divination Specialist Wizard, you also got a 4 min option.Kalthariam wrote: Sun Jan 30, 2022 4:47 am I've noticed it feeling like it is taking longer to load to more in the last few months.

2 mins may be more generous if you're encountering loading screen problems.

Re: Area Load Times
I do have SSDs on both of my computers, one a Windows machine with ample ram & graphics bought to handle After Effects and the laptop a new Mac with M1 and 16 ram. Both are still excruciating when loading some areas so I wonder why your SSD is so quick.
I also wonder if any of the more opaque graphic settings in EE have anything to do with it. I play with as much turned off as possible... much more than I need to turn off probably. If anyone who knows the game well has a settings suggestion I'd love to hear it because this increasing load time is making me want to drop out entirely. Thanks for answers so far.

I have SSD and that Brog mountain village still takes awhile to load. Not sure what it is about that zone, it's oddly long to load for no apparent reason.
