Ship just vanished?

I was sailing for a few hours. The rental still had 4-6 hours on it and was at near full health. I was returning back, and took a pirate ship on the main quadrant, where no other players can see or attack you.
I boarded the ship, went below deck, came back up to move some loot, then suddenly the transition was gone and the ship I was renting vanished.
Returned back to the dock and released the quarter, then tried to return the ship but it was under attack or destroyed.

Was renting the Constant Companion UD ship named the Shallow Water Shadow at around 8pm PST if that helps look into what might have happened.

Update:

I repurchased the ship, and suddenly it showed up at the dock at 0% hull. I was able to board it, and just be underwater? The ballista I was using was gone, but everything else was still there.

Not sure how the ship went from 95%+ hull to 0% in less than 5 minutes with me not on the ship and in the Main Quadrant where no players can attack it.

From what I can see your ship got destroyed 5 minutes after defeating the Pirate vessel:

[Wed Feb 9 05:15:31] SHIP_SYSTEM -- DestroyShip - Constant Companion got destroyed.

It could either be:

A) A bug with the Pirate Ship still firing at you after defeating it or
B) A storm was present and destroyed your ship, but they shouldnt be able to attack you in the center quadrant I dont think.

Either way, I am gonna add more Logs to this as this is all the info I got and add some safety stuff so NPC ships cant fire when they are defeated.

Now that you mention it, there was a storm to the north on the map and had moved between the main quadrant and the quadrant just to the north throughout my sailing. At the time I was returning, I believe it was still in the quadrant to the north, but may have moved to the center.

I wasn't aware storms destroyed ships in the main quadrant, nor that fast. I had been sailing around it for awhile and got the messages that a storm was near, but never saw any hull damage or anything, so mostly just ignored it.

It seems Storm can indeed move to the Center Tile, just not spawn there. So there is a possibility the storm moved to your Tile, destroying your ship. Especially if it was no players on the deck to evade the storm rolls its likely it could've destroyed the Vessel. 5 minutes would be enough as every roll would probably fail vs the Storm DC at an unattended ship.
