Bumping with additional data,
This was tested on 3 servers (ds, surface and c&p) to the same result. When performing a scry the avatar that appears as an invisible character behind the target will leave behind incriminating footprints that can reliably identify who is performing a scry.
This is especially apparent when the character is overburdened as the tracks are left frequently.
They also follow the same rules of persistence it seems and they remain long after the target has left the immediate area allowing them to go back and ascertain the fact they had been scried.
