Divine Synergy toggle

Post by Dembethecat »

Playing as a Paladin Inquisitor, where most of my foes are naturally Undeads, Outsiders, where Bless weapon gives 2d10 divine damage towards, not being able to toggle divine Synergy on or off is quite the handicap, as I burn through the uses at twice the rate, but gaining absolutely nothing from the divine might half which gets activated, as the divine damage does not stack. Perhaps a command could be added that toggles the divine Synergy off/on

Just interested to see how others feel about this, and if there's a chance this might get changed.

I too wouldn't mind a toggle. Some days I like my cleric to just be a tank and use div-shield forever.

Yes, Divine Might deals divine damage, but behind the scenes it's not mechanically the same divine damage dealt by bless weapon and divine essences, for instance.

Divine Mights dmg is called 'Damage Increase' https://nwn.fandom.com/wiki/Damage_increase and it stacks with same type of dmg while also ignoring dmg resistance/invulnereability/vulnereability.
Forever a duckling.

I remember a comment by the dev that implemented this that it was intended design that there was no toggle to it. Any case, things may have changed since then. As players, we tend to like when things are optional, but there might be a balance concern somewhere that I am unaware of with the decision to bar toggle. Still, things may have changed since then.

Divine Might being divine damage is just cosmetic. It is actually 'true' damage that stacks with everything, even divine essences.

Or just have it so that Deep Paladin/BG only consumes one charge of turn undead.
Its mostly QoL, the charges that is, doubtful its going to impact competitive PVP. Unless its a battle of attrition (My round based AC vs how long you can stand up to deplete them). Most PVP I've seen is either Kill you fast with two hander (bows included), run around for position mages, or flatfoot you with mah stealth kinda thing. Haven't seen a long drawn out PVP (except maybe monks v monks).

If toggling cannot be done mechanically, make it instead just consume 1 charge?
Just a thought though, and that's mostly suggestion. Can't exactly share my experience on it as I hate deep builds (except shaman).
But I can imagine running out of charges in longer dungeons can be a pain.

There is no real balance concern if we really think about it. All classes with div synergy also get improved turning and dont really ever run out of turn undead casts anyway, which is also unironically the reason why there is no toggle command. The casts improved turning saves you (and you get the feet for free along with div synergy iirc) are supposed to make up for the charges you burn unintentionally when you're forced to use both div shield+might. So while there's some reasoning behind the lack of toggle command, it really doesnt matter all that much if there was.

I think what really bothers some players is the fact that for the purpose of only using divine shield to have reliable ac in pve with high up time, divine synergy is a downgrade. It feels bad even though it's over all an upgrade.
