Caster Classes CL against Dispelling is a Disaster.

Post by SilverSnake »

It is just my opinion but i consider the fact that so many classes with acess to magic are ''covered'' when it comes to dipping very unfair especially with how sorcerers and wizards are not. And even if they do take Arcane Defense Abjuration their CL is still below a barbarian drinking a potion. You could have a wizard , dedicated caster wizard specialized enchanter who's zoo spells are easier to dispell than some barbarian's potion. Spellswords are covered when it comes to dipping even if they dont really need to dip , so are hexblades and warpriests , bards even! Shaman get ''covered'' for their dips aswell! So do Paladins , Rangers. Having a dip on a sorcerer or a wizard is a necessity that i think they are getting both unfairly punished for while many other classes stay safe. And 2 feats for a 2 cl increase against dispells? Practicioned spellcaster from nwn 2 makes way more sense. The way it stands now in my opinion the ''mages'' or rather just sorcerer and wizard are extremely punished just for doing what they need to do anyway. To think that a dipped wizard who spent 2 feats improving his cl against dispells STILL has weaker zoo spells than a mundane barbarian is bit insane to me. Not to mention i feel like not everyone should be forced to play an abjurer just to get normal CL.

Why do you think the game is designed in this manner?

It's not the first time (probably not the last either) that this topic comes up. And for the most part I agree that it's counter intuitive that spellbook casters have generally lower CL on their spells than mundane with no knowledge in magic drinking a potion. But nwn is a very old game and for the entire history of Arelith the game was supposedly balanced (some years more, some years less) around this fact. Casters were always balanced around this fact. In a world where potions are easier to dispel and casters spellbooks have higher CL than their caster level, casters reign supreme with little counterplay until the entire spectrum of classes of arelith is rebalanced. It's a can of worms no one wants to open and there can be an infinite number of reasons IC for why potions are stronger than spellbooks. Make one up.
