Shadovar and Shadow Doors
I am aware this is bordering on "Suggestions" rather than feedback.
Perhaps I'm woefully uninformed, but I have not seen a single shadow door on my Shadovar character and all those who I've spoken to have the same complaint. I know there is some 'FOIG' to finding them, however being that the system is rather old and likely untouched for some time, I can't help but feel like Shadovar should get some racial ability to always detect them. I'd love to zip around via shadow doors instead of portals to feel a little more spooky, but it seems impossible to find them (the few I am aware of from stumbling into them at the other side).

Re: Shadovar and Shadow Doors
After playing a Shadovar Cleric for quite a while i've also never seen a shadow door too, despite worshipping one of the certain deities that allow the use of Shadow Doors at the cost of piety.
I've checked a lot of places that would lead to Shadow Doors, and destinations from shadow doors found on the shadow plane, yet even after gearing the certain skill related to find them and looking for them at night i was unable to locate the doors themselves.
In my honest opinion as the other race that is also a denizen of the shadow plane, it would feel plausible that shadovars would be able to find the shadow doors not unlike gloamings can do so.

Shadovar can't auto-detect them, so you'd need to use the usual ways. I don't think it's a massive secret that there is a skill that your character can focus in which is for detecting secret doors, traps, and so on...

Re: Shadovar and Shadow Doors
I always just used a familiar to find hem.
Not applicable for clerics of course, but it gives you an idea of the ranks required.

Temporarily back to Arelith and currently 'Hanna'.
Re: Shadovar and Shadow Doors
Shadovar are able to pass through Shadow Doors naturally because of their attunement to the shadow demiplane. Gloamings are able to detect 'and' pass through them. Gloamings also have some portal detection abilities or something, naturally, in lore. "Portal Sensitive" racial ability. This might be another reason? I dunno. Just adding it.
Shadovar (afaik) can mechanically stand around in daylight, and also don't get wrecked by sunlight spells and can't be dismissed/banished. Gloamings cannot stand around in daylight without severe (often permanent until reset, if you crash/server transition with them) penalties, and can absolutely get wrecked by sunlight spells and can be dismissed/banished.
I think Shadovar by far have the better end of this deal and it's fine how it is.
Should probably stay how it is, unless shadovar will also become subject to light sensitivity and dismissal/banishments, or gloamings lose both, neither of which sounds very interesting or lore friendly.

Just keep in mind, seeing the door is a roll..so you can fail it. Make sure your at the right spot then keep trying the door, walk away abit then back to it to redo the roll. when i used to hunt for doors i'd listen for a very and i mean /very/ faint sound effect they give off, might be worth listening for.

That feel when my pet rat can see shadow doors, but I, a creature twisted by the dark energies of the Shadow Plane cannot.

Re: Shadovar and Shadow Doors
You gotta invest in the right skills, like your rat did. Shadovar are still humans, and not a creature.Alyxnia wrote: Sat Dec 03, 2022 7:58 pm That feel when my pet rat can see shadow doors, but I, a creature twisted by the dark energies of the Shadow Plane cannot.

Re: Shadovar and Shadow Doors
It would be nice to be able to auto-detect and use Shadow Doors as Shadovar, but that does slightly devalue Search. An alternative would be to let us start with the Shadovar Trade Post leyline already known. That would let us use the more common areas without necessarily getting all the rest of the useful shortcuts that come with the Shadow Doors.
