Gsanc + Undead

Post by Hazard »

Description:
Greater Sanctuary not interacting with undead summon line and epic mummy dust correctly.

Steps to reproduce:
Cast Gsanc, then raise undead.

Raise undead, then cast Gsanc.

Expected result:
Casting Gsanc, then casting create greater undead, gsanc should remain.

Casting Epic Mummy Dust, then gsanc, undead should remain.

Casting create greater undead, then gsanc, undead should remain.

Actual result:
Casting gsanc, then summoning undead (not epic mummy dust) gsanc is broken.

Casting Epic Mummy Dust, then gsanc, highest tier of undead are unsummoned (leaving only normal undead).

Casting create greater undead, then gsanc, undead correctly remain.

Misc Notes:
Wiki and spell description both include this description now "Casting Greater Sanctuary will unsummon any Gate, Black Blade of Disaster, Epic Spell: Dragon Knight, Epic Spell: Mummy Dust, or Epic Spell: Planar Conduit spells currently cast. Casting any Gate, Black Blade of Disaster, Epic Spell: Dragon Knight, Epic Spell: Mummy Dust, or Epic Spell: Planar Conduit while under the effect of Greater Sanctuary will remove Greater Sanctuary."

This is the description now. At some point EMD was added, although I'm pretty sure this wasn't the case in the past. Thinking it could be a mistake that just became legitimised over time. If not, and this is intentional, the other inconsistencies remain.

Create Greater Undead and lower level versions are not listed, but will break gsanc as if it were an Epic Spell: Mummy Dust being cast.

Summoning after Greater Sanctuary was a common way to bypass the existing limitations and had to be addressed (partially because buffing the summons and preventing their counters got significantly easier with the sequencer update). The most straightforward way to do so was treating any kind of summoning as a hostile act, thereby causing all of them to cancel the sanctuary effect - even though this isn't fully consistent with Greater Sanctuary's behaviour.

As for Mummy Dust, the existing code for unsummoning mummy-dust-tier undead on Greater Sanctuary initially had not been updated for the new undead streams when they got released, which was addressed a month or two ago.

In short, the described interaction is working as intended :)
