Fixtures are not saving, disappearing every reset.

Description of Bug Experienced:

We originally thought this was an issue of theft.

Many placeables have been disappearing from my quarter in Emma Lane, and sometimes the statues outside disappear for one reset, then return, but this is different.

I thought it was theft because, once every 24 hours (which is when servers are often reset), fixtures I have placed down (and which say they have Saved, and that the fixture limit is still below the maximum) will disappear. It has been too many and too quickly to be theft, I think, so I'm not going to make a formal report because I'm not convinced this is theft anymore.

Steps to reproduce the Bug:

Place down fixtures. Basically any, it seems like.
24 hours later, check back.

Expected Result:

Fixtures placed should still be where they are.

Actual Result:

The fixtures are suspiciously missing 24 hours later. It looks like theft griefing, but I've had so many fixtures disappearing in the past week that there's no way it's theft unless it's multiple thieves rotating in sequence. I don't see people going to those lengths to grief me. So far I've lost four different fixtures to this. Instead, I wonder if buggy resets are causing this.

Noticing this with numerous fixtures in Cordor's Gov District. Several crafting stations or other pieces vanish, but then seem to appear next reset. Very odd - may be a separate issue, but worth noting. It's unlikely they are being stolen and replaced that swiftly.

The only times I have seen fixtures disappear with a server reset are either (a) Area over fixture limit, which you get a message about and it doesn't save, or (b) when you literally drop two items in the same position, which tells you it saves both but it is lying and it does not, as the system cannot save more than one item in any specific co-ordinate.

I do not doubt your capability of noticing (a), so unless it is (b), it sounds like something funky is happening there.

I only mention (b) because many folk do not know this one.

Had this happen as well with a pair of fixtures that were placed outside my PC’s residence quite some time ago. Thought that one was bashed and the other one stolen only to have the “stolen” one reappear in its usual spot after last night’s reset.

Made for some wild RP! But definitely seems unintended behavior.

The other thing that can happen with quarters like yours? Is that folk can steal things THROUGH THE WALLS.

The -pickup function does not respect internal walls or doors, you can pick things up through them by using the command.

So, if the fixtures were placed close enough to an internal wall or door that this could happen? That may be the explanation.

I wonder if this is what happened to two of my own fixtures??
I thought they were stolen, but they disappeared after the VERY NEXT reset, and it was always something I had newly placed down. Both were extremely sentimental items, not saved on top of another thing, and well within my Fixture Limit.

As far as fixtures disappearing and then re-appearing, I've had that happen with flowers outside of my quarter, it's very strange.

I used to keep Cordor decorated with flowers and candles once upon a time. They would phase in an out of existence seemingly at random. Many times I would craft up batches of fresh decorations only to find that some of them had reappeared exactly where they should be after having been gone for days.

There is definitely something haunted about Cordor, and its been that way for years.

This has happened to me as well.

I placed 6 flag fixtures in the First Sister interior, only to have them disappear next reset and not come back (not even after another server reset).

EDIT:

After replacing all 6 flag fixtures I noticed the following:
The fixture limit (as shown in one of the screenshots above) was 88/100 with no flags in place.
I then added 6 flags, noticed the fixture limit only increased to 89/100.
Checking through the combat log I noticed this peculiarity:

Only 1 of my 6 flag fixtures actually counts towards the fixture limit. However, no error message about not saving the fixture was displayed for any of the placements, nor were they placed in a way that should cause them not to save (over the limit, or perfectly stacked).

Yet further testing reveals that of my 6 flag fixtures, ONE of them works (I can place it, it adds to the fixture limit, it saves). The other 5 don't. No matter what I do.

Update 3:

After creating yet more flags: A newly created fixture worked fine, added to the fixture limit. Then I renamed / redescribed it in the basin and it stopped adding to the fixture limit.

Update 4:

The fixtures had the following colour tag
<cÿǖ> (Appending image because it does not show properly on the forums) Image

Removing the last symbol from the colour tag and replacing it with a space makes the fixtures add to the fixture limit again.

I had a flag disappear as well, so my guess is that with the recent server re-install and the spaghetti code getting stirred around, something is a bit buggy in the fixture code for some fixtures.
