I love the new weapons but sadly there is still no reason to use them over the Maul, for large characters, mechanically speaking.
Shatterbone Maul damage:
2d6 (base)
4 (miscellaneous physical - 1 bludgeon, 1 piercing, 2 slashing)
3 (bless weapon, adding onto the other physical, because bless weapon is an enhancement bonus and stacks with damage types other than the base weapon's damage type - so it's turning the +1 bludgeon, into +4 bludgeon)
4 (permanent essence)
1d4 (runed elemental damage)
2d6+1d4+11 = 20.5 average base damage
keen, x3 crits, with 2d6 massive crits = 61.5+2d6 = 68.5 average crit damage
Skiltgravr's Hammer damage:
2d8 (base)
4 (miscellaneous physical - +2 bludgeon, +2 slashing)
2 (bless weapon, adding onto the other physical - turning the +2 bludgeon into +4 bludgeon)
1d8 (sonic)
3d8+6 = 19.5 average base damage
rune used for keen, x3 crits, with 1d8 massive crits = 58.5+1d8 = 63 average crit damage (same crit profile as the shatterbone, so no point in comparing crit frequencies)
The new colossal hammer is a neat concept but doesnt' compete with the Shatterbone for damage, and large characters (for whom this is relevant) can also optionally 1-hand the Shatterbone without monkey grip, allowing them to sword and board if they want.
The new hammer is basically useless mechanically because Shatterbone is just better both in terms of variety/tankiness, and pure damage. It literally is superior in both aspects to all colossal weapons, including the new ones.
To alleviate this with the newest hammer, I suggest simply making it keen so that the runic property can be used for a +1d4 elemental damage property, and this will add 2.5 average damage, or 7.5 on crits, slightly outperforming the maul in terms of pure damage. It's still arguably not worth using because the ability to 1hand when needed is AMAZING (big point in favor of the maul), but the new hammer will at least have the edge in pure offense, on paper. It won't be a bad choice for characters that just want offense. As things currently still stand though, if you want offense, you go Maul. If you want defense, you go Maul.
