The War on the Light

Post by In passion, patience »

This is my first attempt at a kudos post. Please bear with me!

I'd like to begin by writing a little bit on the storyline and how it evolved across time. It began some two months ago, near the end of Brogendenstein's storyline about the theft of the eggs. Three had been taken, and only two had been returned. Coincidentally, in the Underdark, souls united by their ambition conspired to deal the Light a blow. What initially began as a lacklustre attempt at securing one way of hurting the Light quickly grew into a large-scale storyline that encompassed the entirety of Andunor. The first two months were rather slow. It was lots of planning, and lots of figuring out how turn a dragon into a dragon't. This eventually culminated in the great abyssal ritual that took place some two weeks ago, the ensuing battle, and everything in-between. . . leading up to the current happenings.

With that out of the way, I'd like to begin with the kudos. There are many names to mention, and I'll try to be as thorough as I can. If I forget any, please do not take offence! I'm very bad with names and there's just so many outstanding RPers and characters to mention.

First and foremost, DM Titania:

The one and only, whose trust in the Devil's Table I am eternally thankful for. Kudos to Titania for accompanying the Table over the months and working with us to bring a dream to fruition. Trusting us with something of this size was probably a great leap of faith, and I'm hopeful that the end product was befitting of the trust given to us. Your events were great, and your advice was nothing short of solid. You were super patient with us throughout it all and took the time to consider the merit of every option as to promote our creativity and agency. For all that you've done for us across the storyline, I cannot thank you enough.

House Auvryndar:

What started as a dream, eventually became reality. I remember Vasyrin's first few interactions with her would-be retainers, and later daughters. Lots of promises, words, and the uncertainty of the future. And so - thank you all for having faith in the princess and her ever-ambitious plans. Thank you, also, for being patient with her and me as a player, through our antics and shenanigans. Venissil, Baeriina, Malynrae, Vieszar, Harkon, Ilpharis, Narina, Lohenlin, Zhilviir, Saverin, Syndril, T'risfalee, Husaun -- I could not ask for better retainers, for better players to interact with. A special thank you to Venissil, Vieszar, Harkon, Saverin, Narina and Zhilviir for aiding me with organising the event and maintaining order and cohesion throughout the happenings. I wouldn't have been able to achieve this without you.

House Xun'viir:

A house so old and prestigious. They've seen it all! They've probably done it all, too! And yet it takes a certain level of elegance and grace to allow fledgling houses, like mine, the room to grow and impact the world much like the Xun'viir have done so in the past. To that end, a special kudos to Vasyrin's mentor and confident, Faeris. Your genius was paramount to the Underdark's success throughout the plotline. Thank you, again and again, for being a great player to interact with, and for playing one of the UD's deepest and most interesting characters. A kudos to Vizzyr (and Agarch), as well as Elkoyn and Balok. Balok, the Architect. Balok, the Artist. Balok, daring enough to set down his easel and painting brush in the thick of the Abyss, in the midst of an all out assault for the fate of Rendannath's soul. If the Devil's Table is as beautiful as it currently looks, it's largely your doing. It would be remiss of me not to mention the sheer amount of work you've done, and continue to do, towards the district's more aesthetic/cultural side. Thank you.

House Ylgy'lla:

A big thank you to Xveven's player for being willing to dive head-first into this storyline, in spite of having missed its onset. I would elaborate on the nature of the work you've done, and how important it's all been for the Table, but I feel like that might still be FOIG! I'll go ahead and praise Xveven's character. He's one of those PCs that truly feel complex and well thought out. The right amount of jaluk, spiced up with an all-encompassing ambition, and a little dose of Bonjour, and Voila.

The Sharps:

Where to begin? From Myryn's willingness to leap into the storyline, to the insight and ideas shared by him and his council. I know for a fact that the Sharps sacrificed a lot of its time and plots to bring about the fruition of the Table's, and this is something that I cannot appreciate enough. This is the kind of mentality that brings about a constructive and amazing experience for all of us. The Sharps, from top to bottom, is an amazing roster of dedicated RPers with lots of care and attention for quality. It's, without doubt, a pleasure to be your neighbour. A big kudos to Myryn, Ja'kk, Laberia, Benesek, Changeling, Duvall, the Ashenblood and any in-between that I might've missed!

The Arcanum:

The initial stages of the storyline were highly dependent on the Arcanum's wit and creativity, and you sure did deliver! With a masterfully-crafted ritual drawn from a bundle of different and antiquated sources, to the build up, and its eventual execution in the Abyss.

Brogendenstein:

While I never got the opportunity to directly interact with Snorri and the rest of the gang, it was certainly a lot of fun taunting the Golden Halls and receiving news of its reaction. A big thank you to Brogendenstein for being elegant and graceful throughout the happenings. I look forward to further interactions, and I'm excited to see where the current events will take us all!

Bendir Dale:

It takes a lot of courage to leap into the heart of action-- let alone in the 363rd layer of the Abyss and in the presence of a massive dracolich. And yet, Bendir (and the Earthkin Alliance, generally), made a remarkable display of courage and bravery by diving into the fray in spite of the involved danger. Thank you for being good sports and overall a solid playerbase to interact with.

Myth Myon:

Last, but certainly not least! An age-old rivalry kickstarted by a few erranties into the Devil's Table gone wrong. A spiteful call for vengeance, and a dish served cold. Without Myon, I'm certain that the Table's place in the UD would've been redundant, and vice-versa. It's such a joy and pleasure to be your adversary, and I hope that the feeling is mutual. Thank you for being patient with our shenanigans, and thank you for never losing hope throughout. You've a certain kick to you, and we were on the receiving end of your wrath multiple times across the storyline. I know there's been a few hiccups near the end of the event, and I would like to apologise for that, and reassure you that any misdeed was policed both ICly and OOCly. I look forward to what you've in store, and will leave you, in the wake of the current events, with a quote from Tolkien:

"All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be Blade that was Broken,
The crownless again shall be king."

You are a gem and so are people who made this possible.(Friend and foe alike! But let us all be friends out of character.) This plotline so far has been straight out of a metal album cover and has been great fun.

Everything has been so neat. Glad to play a role as Faeris. Idk if it can be appreciated how much effort has gone into everything. The story that led to this moment is like IRL months of plots. Setbacks, victories, and research. It truly is straight out of a book and is the reason I loiter around Arelith and invest into stories.

So many great characters to meet and be involved!

And the DMs who make it possible to reach beyond what's normal and standard.

I am not on a team.
I do not win, I do not lose.
I tell a story, and when I'm lucky,
Play a part in the story you tell too.

As an incredibly inexperienced agent trying desperately to figure out what you all were up to (and I was always behind), kudos to you all for pulling off such an enormous organized attack. I'm no good at cloak and dagger, but it was fun anyway.

Nice work behind it. I hope the surface can put something equal in motion for the Underdark. Eye for an eye as they say.

I am a newcomer here.
I discovered the existence of Persitent Worlds, and Arelith, only in March.

Since I delved into, I found people across this world to create stories.

I NEVER imagined one of these stories could become so legendary and powerful like this.

This was like a DnD campaign written by a seasoned dungeon master, and I felt it in my soul. Syndril, like me, has been excited, on the edge, wrathful, depressed, joyful, angry. She felt so many emotions that shaped her and myself both.

I want to thank you all to interacted with me and made this journey possible, using this post also to thank those who welcomed me in Andunor (first with Viridovix, now with Syndril) and made me feel home in this server.

Yet, a special thank you go to these three people, who I feel they became a sorta of family to me.

  • Venissil, who I am fond and hold dear. Helped me a lot with game mechanics and rp, but also grow a friendship out of character that will last forever. Not sure what I'd do without this player.

  • Vasyrin, who welcomed Syndril in her arms and let her grow from zero to this. I couldn't have asked for a better roleplayer. On this, you are from another planet, I will always be grateful to have met you.

  • Malynrae, with her machinations introduced Syndril to House Auvryndar and the Temple of Lolth. If it wasn't for this player, I wouldn't probably be here writing all of this. So, thank you for giving faith in me and opportunity to write stories with you.

There would be many other to thank, my sincere apologies if I am not writing their names here. But! If they are going to read this, they surely know I love them in equal measure.

I am thankful to be part of this community. I cannot wait to see what the future holds for all of us.

Ravens guide your way! Lloth Tlu Malla!
